| Karl Springer | 1 Relevance | 20 years ago | LRF | General discussion | |
| Does the name Karl Springer mean any thing to you readers . Karl Springer was one of the great Interior desiners of the 70's and 80's who died in 1990 at the age of 60 of AIDS. Poor Karl ... his name is so missued for any lucite lamp that is sold on ebay . .He truly designed several great Lucite lamps but every person who has a lucite lamp that they find at a estate sale or flee market for 10.00 bucks runs to ebay and puts the lamp on ebay saying it is a Karl Springer lamp, hopeing that some ... | |||||

| No worries. Yes, the chair does in fact have the aforementioned holes where the buttons would have been. If you look closely on the 1st dibs pics in the link I'd posted, they appear to actually be large, horizontal stitches and not buttons (I'm also not entirely convinced the chair in the 1st dibs pics is original but I like how it looks). If you look at the wood skin in my photos you'll notice they've been sanded. The only foam (and reddish glue residue) you see are in odd places, as if they just stopped sanding one afternoon. I am leaning towards the idea ... | |||||

| cdsilva, On their website (sold) and on their current Pamono listing, they do not use "attributed to". They use the language quoted above and "designed by". I do see on a sold 1st dibs listing where they say "attributed to" but their current Pamono listing is pretty specific about it. Does anyone know them? Would they be open to sharing their information if I contact them? www - dot- pamono -dot- com/easy-chairs-by-arne-hovmand-olsen-for-mogens-kold-1950s-set-of-2 leif ericson, We're actually not sure about the wood now. | First thought was Dunbar but those stretchers didn't seem right so next thought was Probber. There are 2 examples I can find on the interwebs (one on dibs, one on Artnet) that say they are indeed Probber but no labels shown. Hope that helps! | |||||

| The model 100, despite the blurry pic, appears to be the same one in the first dibs link. Wish there were more resources for original catalogues online, though I'm guilty of not having time to upload my collection of original reference material. https://aleph-01.kb.dk/F/TH3NN8HVYNAKES5L59SF6V6RQ6N53EYQUENRPLV4V4VJYEM... | |||||

| Btw, do you think the prices on 1st dibs and also panomo, are real? iVe always been amazed at the high prices! If people really do fetch those figures good on them. I could never fetch those prices with my items, but I'm also pleased that I am able to sell Midcentury items Without a ridiculous price tag. C x | |||||
| Odd indeed vintageobsessive. | 1 Relevance | 11 years ago | Eameshead | General discussion | |
| Odd indeed vintageobsessive. Possibly a shell that was altered by someone who didn't like the shock mounts? Can you tell what the inside of the "shelves"might be made of? Since the screws don't go through to the seat, it has to be a thick bar of something. Maybe rubber? I doubt it is solid fiberglass, as the screws would strip out. The shell looks remarkably close to an Eames shell (at least from the front view). Hard to imagine Charles settling for such an "un-delicate" solution to the underside... A side view of the shell would be interesting to see. The b ... | |||||

| Thanks Aunt Mark! I'm hoping Adelta get back to me, they do have a section dealing with real or fake and seem to encourage people to get in touch! I'm not sure if the 1st dibs dealers will be impressed though, I may not get a reply from them! There are a few dealers who may know if I brought it to them but I'm not trying to lift that heap for a long time, I'm still recovering from getting it home! | |||||

| Hi Aunt Mark, what I have done is search repeatedly, contact the company and question the person I bought it off. I have found no definitive or leading answers. I emailed two dealers who had a similar chair attributed to Eero Aarnio on 1st dibs and asked them (a) if there were any markings to look out for and (b) how have they attributed their chairs as originals. Is there anything else you would advise me to do? | |||||

| I hope this is appropriate to report (if not, I'm sorry 1st dibs!) but we were invited to join them last year. If I recall it was going to cost us $500 per month and some setup fee (I seem to recall it being over $1k but I'm not sure.).. I don't believe there were fees beyond that. I suspect the monthly fee varies depending on the inventory size of the dealer. As we are quite small maybe that's why we were told $500 rather than the $1400 noted above. I really have no idea. I do know that the dealers I've talked to who sell there said they will often accept 5 ... | |||||

Maybe it's one of the reasons they mention it today (because all the old chairs are known for breaking at the knots ;-). I'm glad to hear it's not unheard of. Your Wegner knowledge is enviable by the way. spanky, Thank you for the info, I wasn't sure where to start. | I'm not an expert on Milo Baughman by any means but I do like to do Google image searches and I know that 1st dibs isn't a great source for accurate identifications. i've heard that 1st dibs administrators take misattribution seriously but I think they rely on viewers to report it. That's just what I've *heard*, though. Anyway--I'm guessing your chair is based on this bona fide Milo Baughman chair currently shown on the Thayer Coggin website. I seriously doubt that Baughman would have designed two chairs that looked that much alike, whose differences are ... | |||||
