| Grasshopper, did they try bla... Grasshopper, did they try blasting before burning it off? I've heard that media blasting is not up to the job of removing the plastic coating (rislan?) I thought that burning maybe the only option sounds like it may not be the best! I'm in a similar situation but am the chair is a side rather than a diamond, I have done a few now (none where plastic coated) and had them stove enamelled, also i've always replaced the hardware with stainless (about £1 per for each not and bolt) so i have the option of keeping them outside in th ... | |||||

| i have had at least ... i have had at least 25 of those diamond chairs at one time and your chair was made by knoll from 1952 to 1966 when they made the gage wire thicker, and started putting plastic on lots of the chairs, and of course changed them in the early 90s with there own branding, in the early days they had paper labels that are mostly long gone. | |||||

| It has great potential to be a gorgeous chair. I'd oil the wood and have cushions made. I'd personally go for a nubby fabric in a deep color. It's a true diamond in the rough. | |||||

What is anything if you can't appreciate its texture, colour, form, smell or taste? The luxury goods you describe would be nothing to a blind man. Can you really consider things like diamond encrusted bikinis luxury? The only desriptor I can come up with is absurd.

| ... are the strip kind (not the pressed steel round kind) which indicate a slightly later production. 2: the velcro is cut and glued at odd angles. And, I've never seen velcro used or mentioned in any of the Eames other works. 3: Velcro was invented in Sweden only 3 years before the chair debuted. In my mind its doubtful that it would be a first choice material for the chair. Snaps - the snaps were used from the very beginning to keep the cushions from sliding. You can see the snaps in the stills from Eames 670 Lounge (film) But - the snaps were never drille ... | |||||

The name "Target" originated from Dayton's publicity director, Stewart K. Widdess, and was intended to prevent consumers from associating the new discount store chain with the department store. | donsof Do you have to be so incredibly rude? No one can know everything. Can you reupholster an Eames shell or a diamond chair? I bet you can't. The fact is, someone else can. Does that give them the right to treat you with disrespect? People write on this forum because they have a mutual interest in modern design. Not any one person has all the answers. If they did they wouldn't post here would they? I think your mother would be ashamed.

| Please consider what you are... Please consider what you are using it for. I am not sure if it is right for reading or "chilling out" unless your definition of those things differ slightly from mine. For one it doesn't have a headrest. While I think the ottoman looks cool with it, it usually is seen with the larger diamond or the bird chair. Are you familiar with these designs? That being said, I think it is a great chair and very comfortable with the full pad. It just depends on what you expect it to accomplish. | |||||

My point was that there is a distinction between quality and luxury. What is anything if you can't appreciate its texture, colour, form, smell or taste?... These are components of quality, too. None of what you describe above conjures up luxury. The luxury goods you describe would be nothing to a blind man.Can you really consider things like diamond encrusted bikinis luxury? | more design finds Hey this thread has life in it after all. Great stuff. Spanky, I am in the same boat, I have a loft full of chairs, dismantled side tables and until recently a stack of plastic storage furniture and chairs out in the garden under a plastic tarp cover. I have slowly come round to the idea that I need to start getting rid of some of my treasures. I haven't quite found any dumped LaFonda chairs on the sidewalk like Mr Caulfield - Manhattan is certainly a ripe orchard - London on the other hand... I was driving down the road near my house in a ...
