The spike diamond went for a song, $2,000 for a clock like that is a steal. I thought about bidding even though I already have one. The tripod clock on ebay is now down to $1,750, but is still overpiced. It's not that uncommon. Does anyone know who designed this one? http://cgi.ebay.com/Retro-George-Nelson-Eames-Era-Howard-Miller-Clock_W0... The ebay listing attributes it to N ...

Modernica likes to say that their ESU's are the same quality as HM...they also like to toot their horn that they made the ESU's at one time. This is a true statement, Herman Miller contracted them out like they contract other factories...however their relationship deteriorated when Modernica would not keep up their quality control and did not seem to show any interest in improving. | Dear Riki I do not disagree with your choice of deep-anodised aluminium. It certainly is a nice material, a good heat conductor and one of the hardest surfaces known. There are two additional aspects that I have taken into consideration. One is the comfort of being able to wash everything in the dish washer, the other is induction plate cooking. Induction requires a magnetic material and aluminium is not. The reason behind my choice is that induction cooking is about the most energy efficient we have right now. I know it is not widespread in North America bu ...

| Thanks Ruth, I shall... Thanks Ruth, I shall probably buy more of the Girard & Eames pillows for the sofa to match the diamond chair. Latest pics below, just about finished putting up a 1/4 of my CSS system - I really like it, looks better than the Vodder book shelf in my opinion and keeps my American MCM theme going.. Hope you all agree! | |||||

| There's a guy on eBay selling this amazingly rare clock, called "DIAMOND MARKERS". the only color I've ever seen is the white one, see below. It's up to nearly $500.00 thus far (out of my range) and the moving disc had a crack in the center and the seller states it doesn't turn properly, though the clock 'works"! | |||||

| RUBBER I Have been thinking of trying to spray my Bertoia diamond chairs with spray on bed liner. They can do all kinds of colors and I think this may be a solution for this problem! | |||||

| Tynell Very interesting about the chair forms used for protection. I was positive that Knoll never produced the diamond in plastic, until I saw the blue one posted above. That one looked so real it threw me off! Nice to know, but one does wonder why if they went to the trouble to make these forms, why didn't they offer it as a chair option? It does work, even though it isn't as handsome as the wire INHO. | |||||

| ... they carry are well designed for the task at hand. For example, I wanted a stand alone baker's storage rack and after looking at their beautiful, expensive stuff, I settled on Metro Shelving. I had some Circulon wisks, spatulas and spoons, but I bought a couple of spatulas that were slender and quite nicely designed. So, when in doubt, go to a specialist store and ask an expert. (They turned me on to Swiss diamond cookware too.) | |||||

He had some money from the Museum of Modern Art to put his furniture into production, as one of the winners of Edgar Kaufmann's Organic Design Show (1941). Eero and Charile were winners -- there chairs were simple, direct plywood shells done on a lathe. I told Charlie we were torturing wood and should be using metal and he said, okay, go ahead and try. I proceeded to make the three-legged chair and a two-position tilt-back. As I toyed with the design, Duchamp's Nude Descending a Staircase ca ...

| Not to mention In addition to Whitespikes comments: There were early prototypes found in the Eames Office that did resemble Bertoia's style of chair AND the wire pattern used on the diamond chair - indicating that he may have been working on a chair of that style while still at the Office. But those chairs differ very much from the final DKR. The DKR is about exploration of an unusual material in a new context. The result is a very comfortable chair (ala the fiberglass chairs) Bertoia's pieces are much more sculptural, dealing with the material in a complet ... | |||||

| Like most others... I think the authentic Knoll fiberglass version posted above looks quite nice. The reproductions just look a bit off due to the base mainly, but the diamond proportions could be wrong as well. I like the Bertoia side chairs in fiberglass too and wouldn't mind having one (probably less prone to breaking than the wire chairs?). | |||||
