| Still another thought... The Windsor chair's varying diameters in the legs and braces are the wood equivalent of old Reynolds 631 butted tubing in todays high end custom steel bicycles. Butted tube walls are thick at the ends and thin in the midddle. They create lightness without lost of strength at the joints called lugs in steel bicycles. Lug carving is an art form in custom bicycles. Maybe we could reintroduce ornamentation to a modernist design chair the same way custom bicycle builders do. 531 tubing is braised to lugs with either bronze or silver sodd ... | |||||

James' idea is also really nice; but then we must use a perfect archetype form where the only detail are the holes in it. a form similar to the one james drawed but perfectionised, and why not in glass? This said i also added a new drawing; a few nights ago is was also thinking of getting rid of the saucer and was thinking of slicing the vase...the next morning koen posted ...
| a better spice rack? | 1 Relevance | 16 years ago | HPau | General discussion | |
| Years ago I made a few spice racks like this for friends but with stainless steel tubes in the holes...my new enthusiasm for cooking has resulted in a redesign, why not put the herbs and stuff IN the holes, directly ? Like a pencil box everything is open for your selection once the lid is open, I'd maybe use soss (jewellery box style) hinges with perhaps a magnetic closure like the Berard salt pot I got last week. To pinch out herbs and spices with fingers as necessary, intuitively, thats how I cook. It could be wall mounted or sit loose in the pantry...I ha ... | |||||

I put little dowell nubbins in all the top branches which work quite well with coat hangers + jacket tabs, I hung a doule bed wool blanket off one coat hanger and it's still stable. I did spend about 5 hours hunting down and playing with cap nuts, acorn nuts, barell nuts, cam locks, wingnuts, allen screws and threaded rod (metric, bsa and whitworth threads) and have finally found a way of making it fairly user friendly. Luckily the ...

On another note, I do hold the personal theory that given the sample of the number of dealers I know, this profession is largely populated by hoarders who are hiding in the justification of it, or are trying for a cure. I am likely a bit of both. I know of only one dealer personally, who is not that way and oddly enough he is a diametric opposite. He lives in a very minimal setting and can not stand any extra anything. And he has every bit of the passion for this subject the rest of us do. I ...

I understand why they did it, to even out the tone of the chair as a whole, but I really prefer the wild grain characteristics of the chairs now they are refinished. Most of the toner-use I have seen, is on American products, to make lighter woods like beech, ash, elm look like black walnut. I am not saying it wasn't done in Scandinavia, we both have examples that prove this isn't the case, it just was not often done. Typically Danish, Norwegian, Swedish, Finnish pieces showcased the n ...
| Please help identify markings on a dresser | 1 Relevance | 13 years ago | NULL NULL | General discussion | |
| Greetings, Please, help me identify the marking on a dresser I wish to buy. The seller says it is a Kai Kristiansen. The only marking on the piece is a blue diamond label that says "Pindex BB2." I cannot locate any information on the label, nor can the dealer give further information to prove its origin. Do you have any idea what "Pindex" means? Below is a photo of the tag. Thank you so much. Hope all is well. | |||||

| I have four of these in original very sturdy/dirty condition. Vinyl upholstery is intact as well as most all hardware. Unique diamond graphics on plywood chair back. Impressive finger joints on tapered arch legs. Perhaps inspired by Franz Schuster or Roland Rainer? There are no makers marks or identification tags anywhere. Do these look familiar to anyone? | |||||

| Makers Mark | 1 Relevance | 14 years ago | greencycledesignLA | General discussion | |
| Hi there, I just purchased a Danish secretary. There is a makers mark, but it is hard to make out. There is a diamond shape with a bar line disecting it horizontally. In that line, there is a name but since it is an ink stamp, it has blead and is unreadable. Above that, but still inside the diamond there is a M, and above the M a circle with a slash inside. Below the bar there is some other writing I cannot make out and below that 1892. Any ideas????? Thanks all! | |||||

| All of those markings are compliance markings, sorry. The diamond with the Roman numeral 3 (III) in it, means that the lamp is a class 3 electrical device according to IEC/EN standards. This means the lamp itself operates at SELV, safety extra low voltage. The power supply (part that plugs into the outlet) is made by "Tradania Denmark" a power supply manufacturer. The power supply is obviously European, as its input is 220VAC/50Hz (the mains electrical in Europe, and elsewhere). Its output is 12V DC and 20 Watts (or 20 Volt-Amps, 1.6 Amps). It has ingr ... | |||||

Fortunately I am well aware of the chairs authenticity and just am curious if the cover was hand sewed, or a vintage/possibly newer knoll produced. The cover has 2 clips near the front of the diamond and 4 clips near the bend of the neck. The cover is 100% wool and looks like a knoll fabric, it has about 1/3rd inch of foam that has yellowed but is still soft and not cracked. Any input would be gre ...
