| Maybe Niceguys are chinese... Maybe Niceguys are chinese knock-offs 😀 When it comes to brands I must admit I like vintage Tissot's. I have several, they are very well made timepieces, offer great style at a modest price. The mousegrey dialed one is a recent purchase, I always loved their fifties logo... The black Autolub is something special, the movement consists for the greatest part out of plastic mechanics, so it needs no lubrication (hence the name autolub). It's the ancestor of the modern swatch. The Two-timer is a transitional watch too, and offers an ... | |||||
| Genuine or not? NV45 by Niels Vodder | 1 Relevance | 5 years ago | KCAJ | General discussion | |
| I am trying to get my eye dialed in looking at Finn Juhl's NV45s and I know there are a few experts here. I came across a recent(ish) sale on wrights which looks suspect to me. Lot 122 - 16th July 2020 The photos are not the best quality but the things which are red flags for me are: Wood - The wood grain is not very dominant, especially on the curve of the upper arm rest - I would be hard pressed to be sure its even teak. Vertical Part of Arm Rest - It's very hard to see the join of the vertical part of the arm rests to the horizontal part - maybe is a lig ... | |||||

| ... key pad dialing. Like my old favorite Startac cell. Waterproof would be nice! Yeah, good luck. Like this Vtec if the phone was the small charcoal rectangle on the right. (link at bottom) (The so called 'designer series' from GE, Panasonic etc seem designed to match that pen and pencil/clock set given at retirement for years of good service.) Or just oddly stylish with a bit of gloss or stainless peel-n-stick facing. I do have a Uniden set, bought like a carton of eggs without study in a panic when we moved. The package looked like a plastic egg crate. Those ... | |||||

We have an estimate on the fabrication of the siding, gulp. It will have to be roll formed according to the company that inspected it, set up costs are high (labor and waste during dialing in the roll former). I think that if we wanted to do the whole house it would be maybe 10% more than just the small damaged section. I do have what looks to be a pretty complete set o ... | |||||

| Dis/Agree Barry and Finch, I know a fleecing when I see it (which is why I dont own an ESU -vintage or new) LRF - I think we can agree to disagree. This might, in fact, be the most civil conversation we've had - there's still hope! This is what discussions on DA should be - a dialogue about the details, not shouting matches or name calling. I think this has been a really good, involved, rational, well informed posting on all parts. I dont at all feel like I've been ganged up on 😀 | |||||

| perspectives I am in agreement with those who point out that it does not take an advanced design or art degree to have a conversation about a piece of furtniture. And while we all have our aesthetic likes and dislikes, it's exclusive terminology like "derivative" that has the potential to limit the dialogue to those who have the historical background to understand it's meaning in the context used here-- That said, thank you JC for unpacking what you meant by derivative-- and for giving visuals for our reference. I know I appreciate a variety of perspectives ... | |||||

| I would like to share my last find with you. Last week-end I was in a street fleamarket in Brussels. Suddenly the specific part of my brain reserved to spot Scandinavian teak objects launched an alert. I stopped and saw a strange wooden ball on the top of a vase. A dialog between the seller and me began: Me: What's this? A pipe? Seller: No idea Me: How much? Seller: 1 euro Me: It's a bit expensive for a piece of wood without any known function. But ok, I'll take it. I paid and I went away with my "piece of wood". I still didn't know what it was, but I began ... | |||||

| Attaching images from Flickr. Images cannot be uploaded directly to Design Addict. To attach an image to a post, you must first upload it to a photo-sharing site and then tell Design Addict where to find it. There are dozens of free photo-sharing sites. I happen to like Flickr: 1. Sign up for a free account at flickr.com. Upload your photos there; they'll show up in what Flickr calls your "photostream" (the catalog of all the photos you've uploaded). Click on the photo you want to post; it'll open on its own page. 2. Click "Actions". Select "View all Size ... | |||||

| i dont think style can be... i dont think style can be summed up with one piece. i think style is determined by the overall aesthetic + design ethic of a designer's portfolio, collection, life work etc. i think that each piece, work, or product should be a case study for things to come. in short all of your products should have a dialouge and one should lead to another. i feel this is an honest way to go about finding your own set of design beliefs or as you say, style. | |||||
| Karim Rashid chair Q | 1 Relevance | 21 years ago | dcwilson | General discussion | |
| I just bought a little black plastic chair with aluminum legs marked Umbra and designed by Karim Rashid. I'd like to find out when it was made. It has a couple little dials on the bottom. One points to 9. The other points to 25. The one pointing to 9 also has two zeroes. How do you read these dials? 9.25.2000? | |||||

| I own a Circa 701C like the one pictured above as well--sadly someone gutted it's electronics years ago and tried to make it a guitar amplifier. I have a dream of updating the electronics and fabricating a new aluminum control panel face with dials and controls scavenged from another Electrohome stereo. I'm thinking a Raspberry Pi-based tuner/phono system with tube amps driving the speakers. | |||||
