| I actually picked up those 2 Umanoffs at the Wright Auction years back so the pictures on this thread are of mine. As for the Nelson clock, thanks for posting the picture. I'm looking forward to getting it. You can't tell from this picture, but the dial is concave. It looks like it could be a cool design, but I'm withholding judgment. By the way, the George Nelson Exhibit opens in Spain on June 25th at the Sede Fundacion A Coruna. If anyone is going to be in Spain through September 27th, check it out. I'm hoping to get out there to see it | |||||

| I ended up with those two... They are fun little clocks. I also just picked up that odd Nelson wall clock with the wood dial and black hour makers (except for 12 o'clock in red) at the L.A. Modern Auction. I'd attach a picture, but am incapable of doing so it appears. | |||||

| You're probably right... georgenelson.org doesn't update their information, nor do they have an email link for anyone to ask a question or offer corrections. They DO, however, have the early unnumbered Nelson clock that I also have...the one that's listed strangely (without an illustration) in the Vitra Nelson catalog as "number unknown" 1949; Birch dial, satin brass center and numerials, black hands. | |||||

| Heavens! Someone is selling a Motion Notion clock (#2266) on eBay for $2,500.00 "buy it now" out of Canada. A premium price, to be sure, but the clock's plastic second dial has a visable crack on both sides of the inner hole and the metal plate on the back of the clock is heavily rusted. I doubt if 1st dibs could be offering this clock for this price if it was in mint condition. It's rare, but the seller is being unusually grand. http://cgi.ebay.com/George-Nelson-Howard-Miller-Hexagon-wall-clock-2266_... | |||||

By the way you pommies started this country with convicts, are now moving here in record numbers so in essence you and your countrymen are technically to blame. That means your carbon footprint is shot and onegroovy and his countrymen are more green than you per person per capita. Thanks for the graph. Hey in all seriousness we need to move on so feel free to have one last insult if you so wish and then we all call it quits p ... | |||||

| Most interesting. While the design of the featured radio is handsome, there is a charming naiveté in the use of stretched fabric as a "background" for the dial and the knobs. Naive, because it is impractical to ask the maker to interrupt the stretched field with the puncture required for the dial (witness the irregularity above the dial), and perhaps unkind to require extra care of the owner, to avoid soiling the uncleanable fabric behind the knobs. Ironically, the soiling seems to have occurred in front of the speaker, instead . . . Anyway, it is nice to k ... | |||||

| ... I ever come across a stand of giant bamboo I'll be hacking down a piece and making more of my own. A Swedish pipeholder, just a pretty thing. Rosewood and stainless salt and pepper shakers. Salter kitchen scales, hangs on wall and folds up to make a flat plastic box, lid drops down, very handy and nice graphics on the dial. Stacking stainless steel cone shaped bowls, use them all the time. Some whitefriars style bark vases, the blue is really icy and an amazing colour no idea where they came from but they make great lanterns too. And an Orrefors bowl, I l ... | |||||
| Not so ridiculous | 1 Relevance | 17 years ago | Poach | General discussion | |
| Not so ridiculous Okay... I go out the dial caliper, and took some measurements (to the nearest .005"). Both my early LCW and LCM have seat pans with a thickness of 0.385". My recent production LCW has a seat pan thickness of 0.445". That's a 13.5% difference in thickness. I can also tell you that the difference in flex is significant. The older chairs are very springy. This is a bit less scientific, but by pressing down on the rear corner of the seat pans, I can deflect the older LCM and LCW about an inch. I can only deflect the newer one about 3/8" My ... | |||||

| ^ awesome! Hi nick... ^ awesome! Hi nick Sorry for not replying earlier, not to sure on the current values its been a year or so since i was searching for them, think i paid £90 for my rt20 which was a fair price at the time, it did need some internal work new valve and other gubbins which cost another £30, buy the best example you can though, think it would be pretty hard to turn round a tatty example, the markings are printed onto the case and i dont think replacements are available, there is a phono socket on the back its the old style one (5 pin i think ... | |||||

| Sprinkler is bodacious! The silver part (top) rotates and sprinkles right? Sculpture is uplifting Yup. You set the dial (distance) and the single water spray, which shoots out on a angle, adjusts the distance and aids in the silver part turning. The further the stray is, the slower it turns. It's by far the most high styled 1950's design sprinkler I've ever seen. Made by the Gates Company. | |||||
| MidMod that Numbers clock | 1 Relevance | 18 years ago | barrympls | General discussion | |
| MidMod that Numbers clock is one of the late 50's vintage (2281) clocks, but it sure looks like those cheaper Umanoff "Swing Timers" clocks of the early 1960's. I don't think it's worth $750.00, and I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't sell. I love Nelson's clocks, but this one doesn't really turn me on too much, although it is cool that the numbers are printed onto the plexiglass. here's what is says in the 1965 catalog; 2281 "Numbers" clock. diameter 13", Depth 4". Oliver Green, purple, orange, numerals on plexiglass, white dial, oil finished walnut rim ... | |||||
