New cover for large Bertoia diamond chair? | 2 Relevance | 16 years ago | Elizabeth deL. B. | General discussion
I had my Bertoia large diamond lounge chair covered in Knoll Cato fabric. Looked great, survived years, parties, and toddlers. Then it met the new puppy, who promptly unraveled a good chunk of the cover. It appears that a new cover from Knoll or the online Knoll resellers will cost something in the neighborhood of $1250, which is pushing it a bit. But it's an unusual kind of cover, half cover half upholstery, and I haven't found an upholsterer who can replicate it. I have seen companies which make replacement pads for Bertoia chairs, but never a full diamond ...
Original / Authentic ?? - 'Bertoia Diamond Chair'- designed by Harry Bertoia | 2 Relevance | 17 years ago | NULL NULL | General discussion
Hi All, I was wondering if you could tell me how I can tell if I have an authentic original Bertoia diamond Chair (I have 4 of em) or if you know of someplace were I could find out that information? It's painted over but where the paint is chipping off, it looks like it had white enamel originally. If it is an original, generally, what are their worth? I'd really appreciate any info you have!! Thanks so much, Renee
Bertoia Diamond Chrome Finish | 2 Relevance | 17 years ago | NULL NULL | General discussion
Was wondering if anyone here had a picture of a bertoia diamond in the satin finish. Only been able to find polished chrome ones on the knoll website, and there seems to be a dearth of satin finish ones in stores. I quite like the idea of a satin finish but would be happier seeing one before I buy! Would appreciate any thoughts on which finish would be more versatile in the context of furnishing a flat. LuciferSum and Whitespike have weighed in on this, wondering if anyone else had any thoughts Oh ... and I think its an icon, not a cliche!
Bertoia Diamond chair restore? | 2 Relevance | 17 years ago | eac4085 | General discussion
I have 2 original diamond chairs that have seen better days. They are white and the vinyl coating is chipping of and cracked. I tried painting with a ceramic paint but they still keep chipping. Has anyone ever restored these and if so what is the best way to do this.
Bertoia Diamond Dilemma | 2 Relevance | 18 years ago | NULL NULL | General discussion
Bertoia Small diamond dilemma I love the beautiful chrome mesh of my 1972 small diamond Chair and want to remove the original cover because it's ugly. (Purple and foam is destroyed.) But when I start to take it off I see that there is equally ugly tape wrapped around the perimeter of the chair. I want to remove the tape but I'm sorta afraid to remove anything original from the chair. Did the Knoll factory put that there to protect the foam cover from the edges of the chair? Is it bad to remove that?
How much should I pay for this Bertoia Diamond Chair? | 2 Relevance | 18 years ago | MichaelJZ | General discussion
Hello Everyone, I know these questions are annoying and not something that should hold any worth. But I am a student that loves design and have the chance to buy this Bertoia diamond Chair with an Ottomon. Its a used buy and I dont want to be paying more than is fair. Please let me know. And if anyone has one or has sat in one, the comfort is obviosly very very important to me. Mainly becuase once I get this chair, I wont have the money to splurge on another one. this will become my "reading" "chill out" chair! 🙂
large and small bertoia diamonds -- differences | 2 Relevance | 18 years ago | brbeard | General discussion
Hi, Has anyone owned or sat in both the large and small (Bertoia) diamond chairs? I'm wondering how they differ in terms of comfort. The large diamond seems like it may be more of a lounge chair (comparable to the bird chair) than the small diamond. I say this because of the angle at which it sits (by what I can tell from pictures and measurements, at least), and because of the fact that it uses rubber mounts (like the bird chair) while the small diamond does not. Here are the measurements of the respective chairs: Small diamond: 34" wide x 28" deep x 3 ...

What do you think is a fair price for a vintage Bertoia small diamond chair without seat cover in white? I am looking for one more but have balked at paying the $250-$300 they have been going for recently on Ebay. (I bought one on Ebay in March for $135.) Maybe I should wait until summer is over and the prices come down?

I have a Knoll small bertoia diamond chair with a black leather seat pad which i am looking to replace with a full textile seat pad, but can't find one anywhere! knoll makes them and charges about $800, and i've seen some others on line for about $450, which is even more than i spent on the chair...local upholsterers won't do it without a pattern or a cushion they can tear apart. anyone know if a pattern exists for this or of somewhere i can find this that is more affordable?

A diamond weave also takes a lot more cord than a Møller seat. A Møller armchair takes a bit more than 2 pounds. They are wider. The way Bramin wove a seat must take more too.

Bertoia diamond fiberglass chairs | 2 Relevance | 12 years ago | John Sayles | General discussion
Bertoia diamond fiberglass chairs is there any photos of the bases of these chairs, I bought two of them, mint condition in Black and Orange but I don't believe the bases are the original, these bases are like the H base on the shell chairs. I have seen the bases before on the fiberglass diamond like the original wire diamonds. and reference out there? john
Dimensions | 2 Relevance | 12 years ago | fastfwd | General discussion
Dimensions The overall dimensions haven't changed, but I believe the shape is a little different now. I haven't looked at a vintage chair side-by-side with a new one, but it seems to me that old chairs have a slightly narrower "neck" where the backrest meets the diamond-shaped seat; new chairs are thicker there. It's not a very noticeable difference, though, and new covers fit old chairs just fine. |
