If a thing is produced for a | 2 Relevance | 9 years ago | objectworship | General discussion
If a thing is produced for a length of time there will be small variances, perfect consistency is impossible and designs or aspects of them are adjusted for the contemporary situation. or maybe the chair was like 3d printed or something in a sweatshop by the Amazonn overlordz I guess it would be only mildly surprising to see these chairs counterfeited down to even the "authorized original" tag, like handbags, guitars, etc. Often when I see a "real" Whatever Brand handbag, it looks like all the other handbags, it has no meaning, except as a showcase of the label, which is often tacky, whether real or not. It would be nice to think that true quality will speak for itself, but truth is subjective in the marketplace. Maybe soon the "real thing" will have one of those stupid smartcode things imbedded in it- Then you could scan your chair with your "device" to see if it was "real", scan yourself to see if you were really here, and post the "experience" on "social media", paying sacrifice to the Big G in the sky we probably won't think of this stuff much anymore once the earth is consumed by the sun

Not my thing. Sorry. Seems... Not my thing. Sorry. Seems whimsical for the sole purpose of being whimsical. And not to go off topic too much, but I recently went into the Ingo Maurer store / gallery in NYC, and was very impressed. The designs are not all great, but most are very good and some are really incredible. And there's no single "style," which is a credit to the firm. And, surprisingly, the lamps aren't all ridiculously expensive. The 'moskito' desk light i liked, e.g., was about $550 or so. I went away thinking that I.M. is the only modern-day counterpart to the great Italian lighting design firms of the 50s (arredoluce, arteluce & stilnovo, in particular). I.M. is comparable to those firms in terms of its creativity, use of materials, and sheer artistry. Current italian lighting designs, e.g. those by artemide or flos (i know, they bought out arteluce in the 70s), don't come close. anyone else suggest a great modern lighting design firm? |
