| OK, Luc...let's agree to disagree yes, you have a valid point, but in my opinion, you're directing it to the wrong people. When I buy an item online from an out-of-state website, it's their policy whether or not to charge me tax. I am not a student of tax law and I'm not absolutely what my obligation would be, but I have absolutely no problem buying items online and not paying taxes, if they're not requested at the time of purchase. If you want to talk taxes, I have more of a problem with second hand items where the taxes were paid at the time of original p ... | |||||

| Rewiring Disderot lamp | 2 Relevance | 14 years ago | parafo | General discussion | |
| We FINALLY acquired a Boris Lacroix for disderot dog lamp after many years of searching. It has the original European wiring and socket and we were wondering if anyone can point us in the right direction on how to remove the old and where to find a new socket that would work (we're in the US) without completely destroying the lamp. The original is a plastic socket that is riveted to a metal tab. I've rewired dozens of lamps, just never one like this. | |||||

| Thanks for the direction,... Thanks for the direction, Pegboard. I see the same frame in Hansen sideboards; still looking for those drawer fronts....There's a massive hutch with it; same frame shape and size as the sideboard, with large vertical teak pulls glued onto the glass doors... | |||||

| Its been brought up and discu... Its been brought up and discussed many times, the last big one was Whitespikes prompting. I like sharing knowledge and learning from otheres but if someone isn't prepared to do the tiniest bit of googling or book buying and gives nothing in return other than a cursory 'thanks' and never contributes to the forum again why the f%^k should anyone bother? Its a two way street. At the very least tell us about how you got something or why you like it or what you're going to do with it or ask how it was made, Anything! Genuine enthu ... | |||||

| Right direction Having visited one for the first time in Palm Springs a few days ago I was some what taken back at the current design options that are offered. Plastic Eames chairs and the like, now I understand what you folks have been talking about for sometime. Nonetheless, I figure it provides some an opportunity to purchase design that is within reach, sorry for the redundancy. May your weekend estate and thrift hunting provide you with some excellent finds this week. Lenox | |||||

| new direction OK, all the boucle fabrics I could find have no stretch, so I think that I have to forgive the boucle idea! So now my main priority is to find a fabric that has stretch in 4 directions. For now I found Haronsen MIMER and Kvadrat TEMPO. Any other ideas? | |||||
| More on A New Direction | 2 Relevance | 20 years ago | Dana | General discussion | |
| More on A New direction You replied to a post about "A New direction". You seem to know alot about interior design. Are you an interior designer? I am going to school now for my Bachelors degree in fine arts and would really like to get into the interior design field. If you are a designer can you answer a few more questions? How long did you have to wait to get a job? Are you happy? How often does your company hire new talent? If you could choose another field to go into 2nd to interior design, what would it be? Thanks for your time. Dana | |||||

| Another direction your table might take... I've always thought truly elegant modern designs have suitability simultaneously for high cost materials versions and low cost ones. I've long wished good designers would breath beauty and life into particle board. Not particle board designed to look like something else, but particle board allowed to look like itself. If you go back to early modernists, they revealed the beauty and utility of all manner of materials that persons thought should be hidden or not used at all (metal, fiberglass, bent wood, vinyl, etc.) i ... | |||||

| Nanna ditzel No, I appreciated a direction to go in and of course now I want to collect ditzel pieces...I understood what you had intended and I looked at Danish auction houses and websites trying to find the rocker or something close. I love a challenge but we seem to have sooo many pieces that are mysteries...just found another rocker last weekend that is going to drive me nuts and we have a table that I am so sure is a Karl Springer but I can't find it either. Its what makes it fun...learning and searching for the illusive design. | |||||
| RE: Disassemble veneered bookshelf? | 2 Relevance | 6 years ago | tktoo2 | Repair | |
| I think your intuition is leading you in the right direction in that attempting disassembly would likely end in the kind frustration and regret that come with learning a lesson the hard way. Please take this as friendly advice from someone who has opened their share of canned worms: Save your time, effort, and money for pieces that best suit your needs, keep it fun, and don't ignore that 'little voice' when it speaks to you. | |||||
| Directional walnut & black: Is the line by Milo Baughman or Kipp Stewart? | 2 Relevance | 8 years ago | staceyneil | Identification | |
| I have a couple of pieces from this line and have seen them attributed both ways. I'm leaning towards Baughman just because they seem a little too blocky and masculine for Stewart & MacDougall, but I would love to know if anyone has a positive attribution. Does anyone have a catalog or ad or other authentication? Thank you! Stacey | |||||
| Need help identifying designer of "cube" like Directional Design chairs by Sedgefield | 2 Relevance | 10 years ago | gtburgin | Identification | |
| I found a pair of these at a thrift store. Only one chair has a label and it says "Directional Design by Sedgefield", Sedgefield Furniture Company of Highpoint, NC. I think they are from the 1970's (possibly 1974 base on a text description from an ad in NYC) but there is no date on them. I've looked everywhere online and can find nothing like them. I'm wondering who designed them since I know directional used many big name designers. | |||||
