| setag's direct ad hominem So starting threads about unknown items, posting my own research and soliciting comments from experts is completely selfish you say? Have you ever read a thread started by someone else and found that you have learned something? What if the original poster had decided not to post the thread because it would look like they were trying to take advantage of other's knowledge, where would that leave a forum such as this? And thank you for mentioning the Stocksdale S&P - that is the most perfect example I can think of as to why the form o ... | |||||

| Modern Classics direct again... Following my previous posts here are the current status of a not solved situation... Starting form the background... Last 5th December 2007 I ordered and paid on line to Modern Classics direct UK two black Barcelona chairs, 1 Fully Black Tulip Chair, a Tolomeo lamp and an Eileen Gray side table. I ordered under the promise that everything was on stock and that would be immediately sent to me. After several emails and not answered phone calls, I received at the 11th January 2008 the Eileen Gray table, an OK Barcelona chair, a b ... | |||||

| I disagree As I sometimes do. The topic of modernism and affordability makes me a bit nervous, as there is a tendency for people to take things wildly out of context, which creates a scenario of comparing apples to oranges. First off - its inaccurate to paint all of modernism with an affordable brush. Only select people were targeting low cost furniture. Others were exploring a method of action, a systematic rationality, or simply doing what most of us today are trying to do - make a successful product and make a living from it. For Barry's cited example, ... | |||||

| Yes, but the name Modern Classics direct.. return a clean Google search! Therefore the unsuspecting customer would really not have any idea these guys are crooks. So we know they are one & the same, but if you were checking them out you would have no idea! How appalling. As for the Arco lamp, of course its not the original! We sell a version of it too, for £299, & very nice it is too - but at that price it is NOT the real McCoy. And I think I might be able to get a trading address for them if anyone is interested. | |||||

| Modern Classics direct are JMC Modern Classics Online are NOT! Just to clarify that, dont want the two getting confused with each other! I run Modern Classics Online (might have to change the name!), & whilst the furniture business can be a challenge the way these people appear to work is just completely unethical. Their card merchant provider (either Lloyds Cardnet, HSBC, Barclays or Natwest Streamline) would shut them down in a nano second if they knew what was happening. It gives everyone in this business a bad name & the sooner they & the other two compa ... | |||||

| steer me in the right direction Wouldn't you consider the Case Study House prgram, and thus the Case Study style, to be a military influence? I know it isn't a direct product adaptation like the Jeep. I thought they did however respond to the need for housing for many returning soldiers from WW11. Also, wasn't some of the material choices for the construction influenced by what was available due to wartime? Also - one mentioned that you forgot: Jens Risom's famous webbed chair employed cheap parachute strap webbing when it was designed. I remember him saying ... | |||||

| Let me be more direct then... Inquiries into why one race, religion, ethnicity, gender, or gender-preference category of persons are many in a field tend in my experience either to be pseudo-science cloaking prejudice, or flawed science performed by epistemic hacks. Teachers who give young hungry minds assignments like that given to Jade deserve extended sabbaticals in the most fecal encrusted bowels of hell. And Jade, who does not seem to grasp the baseness of his assignment, may need to do some soul searching of his own. | |||||

| a direct example I agree with koen that the science behind global warming seems far more convincing (if not as well broadcast) as the propoganda to dismiss it. But in terms of answering the orignal question I would point, as Koen has done, to oil. Whether the supply is running out, or can be put to better use, or is simply being controlled for the profit of "x" party-the price of gasoline is skyrocketing. This is having a direct effect on how Americans think about cars, and how manufacturers are producing them. For environmentalists (and us East Coast li ... | |||||

| @adrian321 Seems to be the London based furniture maker Herbert E. Gibbs. Here's what I found: Herbert E. Gibbs trained as a cabinet maker at a technical college and also taught carpentry at a school. He founded Herbert E. Gibbs, a furniture manufacturing company in approximately the 1920s. The firm was based at De Beauvoir Road, London and later First Avenue, Montague Road, London. The firm produced furniture for domestic and commercial use. This was sold direct to the public and trade and through retailers across the UK, including Heals. | |||||

| Maybe she directed the dealer to this thread as a bargaining tactic, then the dealer offered her a huge discount to take down the photos (the shop's name WAS partially visible, after all) since his ethics were justifiably called into question within this thread. | |||||
