Royal Tichelaar Makkum;;+31515 – 23.13.4;13/03/08 01:00;On a Spanish map from 1572, today’s location of Royal Tichelaar Makkum’s factory is already marked ‘bricaria’: a brickyard. It is the oldest proof of the company’s more than four centuries of uninterrupted ceramic history. By 1670, domestic pottery had replaced bricks as core business and from 1890 Royal Tichelaar Makkum concentrated on ornamental earthenware. The idea to found the company was the result of a long born desire for simple and extraordinary furnitures by the designer and advertiser Klaus Schickor. He wanted a spot of calmness in his hectic daily life but he couldn`t find any furniture which met his needs. So he started to design furniture himself.

The design approach follows certain chosen principles such as simplicity, balance and unusual details.”
