Michele De Lucchi studied in Padua and then at the University of Florence under the direction of Adolfo Natalini. He graduated there in 1975.

In 1973, he founded the design and architecture group Cavart, which promotes radical design. In 1978, he worked in the design studio of Kartell in Milan. He met Ettore Sottsass and participated in the first Memphis exhibition.

In 1979 he designed a large number of post-modernist prototypes for domestic use. They were not put into production but had an impact by the radicality of forms. Then he became a consultant for Olivetti.
