Hello All,
I have recently purchased a pair of Wassily chairs by Gavina. They are upholstered in a thick beige canvas which has seen better days, unfortunately. There is evidence of a previous owner making a poor attempt at repair of the straps which have come apart at the seams. Upon removing the damaged straps, I have noticed that there appears to be a cardboard insert between the canvas sheets on each of the straps I have looked at so far. I'm curious whether this was original to the chairs of this period or perhaps an addition made by one of the chairs owners. Let me know your thoughts, thank you all.

Without benefit of photos or direct experience with Gavina fabric-upholstered "Wassily" editions, I would have to assume that fiberboard stiffeners are original. Likely to help prevent sagging as the fabric stretches over time and usage.
