I have the opertunity to purchase a pair of genuine vinyl swan chairs dated 1968.They need recovering which is not a problem.

The question I have is regarding the bases. The spindle is very short and there is a flange missing from the top of the fluted stem. The spindle is fixed and does not turn on a bearing.

How is the spindle fixed into the fluted base. There is no drilling in the fluted base to take a screw which could be used to anchor the spindle in the base.

The spindle is very short and there is no facility to fit a circlip.

Could one of you kind soles inform me of what's going on here.

Thanks.
