Hi.

I'd be tempted to do nothing except shop for the perfect coffee table book to hide most damage. This way, if any accidents happen in the future...you can buy more books.

ps the repair will always look like a repair. Honest damage is acceptable. It's part of the tables history. Hi.

.... are you sure that is sanded through? It does not look like any sand-through veneer that I have seen before, as you can still clearly see the grain variation.

Did you strip the table prior to sanding? because it looks more like you sanded through the old finish, more than sanding through the veneer. I could certainly be wrong, as the pictures leave a fair amount for the imagination still, but it really does not look like sand-through to me.

@Mark, I agree that this adds to the history and character of the table.

@Zephyr, it looks like there is a little veneer left, but not much. The stain accentuates the worn spot, so I think trying to even out the color would be a good place to start then reevaluate.

I'll be sure to post a result pick for the forum.
