Hi folks,
wanna reupholster a few of the Kai Kristiansen chairs #31. Did anyone make it by himself and has any experience? Is that manageable or should I rather give them to a professional upholsterer? I think a tough part is the chair back with these rolls on the corners. See second picture below. Any help is appreciated.
@spanky - batsignal. 😀

Thanks, Herringbone.
I have done a couple of these and yes they are tricky. If you have experience doing very precise upholstery on curves and are good at finish details, go for it. Otherwise it's probably best to find a good upholsterer who knows the importance of getting the original look just right.
@Spanky - when you reupholstered them, did you take off the back? And if so, how did you get it re-attached, i.e. glued it back together?
I have managed to reupholster a model of this chair, but the back is not sturdy; it recently broke off and I want to glue it back.
It's been 7-8 years at this point and I don't remember taking the back off. Pretty sure I didn't.
I mostly just remember that fitting the welt around the wood and making sure the raw edges were all hidden was a pain in the neck. Very fussy work. I'm pretty sure a few hand stitches were involved.
