Hello,

My most recent acquisition, a aluminum office chair produced by Herman Miller, see pics.

I'm not so into Eames, it's rather hard to come by here in Belgium too.

But this one had the potential to add some color to our interior and as the metal

parts are in somewhat of a state, the price was reasonable too. At 200 dollar I hope

I did ok.

What do I have here? It seems the aluminum started oxidizing and pushes away the finish

on top. To me it appears to be chrome, or is it a clear coat with some polished aluminum

attached to it?

I've seen some threads on the forum concerning refinishing a chair like this one for instance:

My question:

How do I clean up the metal parts, without harming the vinyl/naugahyde?

Do I need the take the whole chair apart. I'm a bit weary to effect the upholstery.

Waldorf, can you elaborate on that?

Amazon 62 (Maarten) can you share your experience?

Thanks for looking into this all!

Hello,

what you have is an early EA 117.

i would say the base is chromed and in bad condition.

Hey Waldorf,

Thanks for weighing in! In the other thread you showed three chairs (lounge versions) of your own, where you stripped the aluminum parts? How did you avoid damaging the vinyl seats?

They looked great!
