Hello everyone,
working on this midcentury chair set from Benze, Germany.
In order to reupholster the seats, I need to remove them, but they whysoever are glued to the frame.
Does anyone has a clue how to remove them in a more gentle way?
When i start to knock them off with a rubber mallet, the seat plate usually cracks in several places.
Thank you in advance for any hint.
I am wondering why a furniture producer would use a glue method for the seats instead of screws, like all Danish did. Is that because the furniture was made just for one time use and they didn’t count that someone would want to reupholster them one day ?
I remember the German producers in the midcentury did focus on cheap production. That was their market strategy compared to high quality Scandinavians. Was gluing the seats really such a saving method?
Or did they even want to prevent customers from repairing the chairs and buying new ones instead?
@browkin, It's called "planned obsolescence" and we see it in nearly every consumer product available today, unfortunately. A marketing strategy that reflects our greater throw-away society, I'm afraid.
