Any advice on how to fix an Eames ottoman that separates from the base?  The stem to the ottoman slides out of the base whenever I lift the ottoman.  I know the lounge chair has a locking ring, but I can't figure out how the stem attaches to the base.  Thanks.

You're right that there is no hardware securing the shaft to either the cast base or the top "spider." I can only imagine that what you've got is a failed press fit (or "friction fit" or, technically, "interference fit").

Scratch up the mating surfaces of both the shaft and socket with coarse sandpaper, clean thoroughly with alcohol, and glue them together with epoxy making sure to align legs of the base with the points of the top spider. Use blue painter's tape to mask exposed surfaces during prep and assembly, and remove before epoxy gels.

@hball419, it was nothing.  Thank YOU for helping me to attain "Honorable Member" status (really, I'm not worthy)!

Bon chance with the repair!
