that's always a toss-up---will something sell better if it's redone in a new fabric in a new color or would buyers prefer to get it redone themselves in a fabric of their choice that goes with their stuff? And then there are the people who value original everything over all else. Grime and wear does tend to make a lot of people walk right by, that's for sure. If you do decide to redo them, a Knoll fabric in a neutral color will probably appeal to the greatest number of buyers though there will always be some who find it boring.
I have been through this about a jillion times myself. But I've had bright red stuff sell immediately, one hot pink thing within 5 minutes, while some neutral things sit forever. You just never know.
There IS a chance that their current fabric is still available from Knoll. Some of their archival fabrics have been in production for decades. That is another direction to go. But yeah---pics!
My experience is that generally the people who value things in original state are difficult to reach, and that market is rather small as well.
For me personally, being able to source original fabrics at good price, and having an affordable re-upholsterer makes a huge difference. With respect to colour, I've had mcm Danish sofa sets in neutral grey wool sitting in inventory for a year, but bright yellow seats sold within days. The colourful stuff tends to sell quicker in my experience.
