Hi,
does anyone know what kind of fabric is used for my Eames chair? It´s an early Fehlbaum/Herman Miller production.
The fabric is full of stains and i was not able to remove them with several cleaning methods. Now i think of dyeing it black. Most dyers only work great on natural fibre but i think this here is some kind of synthetic fibre!?
Is it possible to remove the upholstery part and put it on again? I tried a little and i was able to flip the piping over and back the edge (hope you understand?). But I guess it will take some of the foam with it...
Is that right or does anybody know?
Thank you for your help!

Here's how to determine fiber content by burning:

All you need is a very small bit of fiber. Maybe it's possible to snip a bit from the edge? Use tweezers to hold it over a candle flame. Don't use a match because the smell of the burning match material will interfere with the smell of the burning fiber, which is one of the clues in identifying it.
You can read about dyeing nylon and other fibers on this site:

I don't know if you can find those dyes locally; if not, this place probably will ship to you. They are pretty wonderful! I've bought lots of dyes and supplies from them in the past.
