My client has multiple Knoll Pollock chairs that I sold him used.
The chairs were mfg between 1979-1983.
As we have been re-upholstering them, the plastic 'surround' that is sewed to the leather and (apparently) is a protection so the leather does not get cut by the steel outer frame, is crumbling or exploding (disintegrating) when we attempt to re-use it.
I need a source for the plastic surround that will allow me to re-upholster these chairs in new leather.
Please review and advise.
Bob

Bob,
While I can't help you with the OEM rubber/plastic strip, they do make something called an "edge protector" or "edge strip" for restaurant tables that sometimes comes in a T-shaped cross section; you might try looking into that. I know there's also automotive weatherstripping, but that tends to be really soft rubber and probably wouldn't be durable enough for this application.
I have a question of my own - how do you get the aluminum rim off the chair? My upholsterer couldn't figure it out and didn't want to risk damaging it, so I'm attempting to tear it down myself in frustration...
