So I have completely stripped and lightly sanded the face of the drawer with 220, but I'm left with light spots on the dresser (noticeable by spots near the drawer pull holes) . I know the previous owner/seller had did a sloppy refinish on the piece to begin with.

Whats the best way to even this out or just for arguments sake even out the piece? I was really hoping I wouldn't have to stain it and just either go with danish oil or tung oil and enjoy the natural wood.

Try some medium or dark walnut tinted Danish oil

I assume the photos show wiped-on solvent, to temporarily darken the wood to a clear-finish color ?
Could it be that you partially wetted the surface at some point, before or after "light sanding"? This could explain an irregular color. I'm trying to think of other causes. Perhaps, if all else fails, an application of stripper, to the whole set of fronts, followed by the usual steps (always uniformly and consistently carried out), will straighten out the situation.
If not, then stain. (Even that, if there are underlying issues, may not guarantee a uniform result.)
