Hello I am restoring an anglepoise 1227 and was wondering if anyone had any tips for removng rust from the springs.
I have cleaned the outside with wire brush and wd40 its worked ok but there is still rust on the inside of the springs.
I am thinking about getting the springs rechromed but am unsure of how to take the cone metal piece out without
doing damage to the springs.
Also a quick question about the wiring.
Is it possible to fit 5.5 Outside Dia. 3 core cable to one of these lamps without removing the shade 'lock stop' metal clip. Would still like to pass it through the shade holder as I dont want to start drilling new holes.
Any help or advice would be aprieciated and welcomed.
Thanks
M

I'm not sure about cleaning...
I'm not sure about cleaning the springs. I've tried several times with no luck. But have had them zinc plated in the past and this was cheap and looked good. I've also used 3 core when re-wiring them and it was fine. Bought the cable from lampsandlights.co.uk and it's really good, when some ebay cable I purchased before crumbled in my hands. But I'm sure there are other sites out there.
You can sometimes buy sets of springs on ebay if nothing gets them clean.

Zinc sounds nice
Thanks Stew, Did you dissmantle the springs before sending them off to be plated? If so how? (without damage)
The wire is Black 3 core flex 3 x 0.5 - O.D 5.5mm
Its not the braided 3 core silk flex.

A bottle brush with
a gritty cleanser ? Push a wad of steel wool through the spring, with a stick ?
