Hello, I'm having the worst time out here in los angeles, meeting people my age who have a thirst and knowledge for mid century modern furniture and design. I'm in my late 20's and just I have yet to meet someone my age who actually collects hi end modern like myself. If you live in the los angeles area, i'd love to "talk shop" with you.

Well, I'm not exactly from L.A. ... actually it's more like Copenhagen, Denmark. But my situation is the same though.
I'm 23 years old and I collect mid century modern furniture too (of the better kind) - and I'm the only one of all those I know who are under 30 (friends, family, classmates, people at work etc.).
I'm just interested in hearing what you have been able to collect so far?

Hello again. My camera's in...
Hello again. My camera's in the shop but I could perhaps send you some pictures sometime.
Well, I started collecting when I was 15. My father has always liked design furniture so I grew up with Poul Kjærholm, Mario Bellini, Børge Morgensen, Finn Juhl and Le Corbusier.
Through his life he's had everything worth mentioning so it was natural for me to start purchasing furniture of similar quality and mix it with IKEA stuff since I was so young and had/still have limited funds.
At this point I have less things that I've ever had before. My taste changed as I became completely addicted to modern design and read every book I could get my hands off. So I've sold a lot of what I had.
To mention a few, I've had George Nelson table/stools, countless Eames chairs (incl. a few rare Robin's Egg blue side chairs), Verner Panton wire cone chairs + a complete System 1-2-3 lounge set + around 40 meters of various Mira-X fabrics on rolls from old stock, Harry Bertoia Diamond chair, Eero Saarinen stool/chairs etc.
Now I have a wonderful teak/chrome sofa by Peter Hvidt & Orla Mølgaard, a Finn Juhl coffee table/bench, a small Harry Bertoia child's chair, a teak/oak Savbuk lounge chair by Hans J. Wegner and a Eames wire chair with a Alexander Girard bikini pad (Millerstripe). Then ad countless Krenit and Catherineholm bowls, Homlegaard art glass vases, Marimekko screenprints, Alexander Girard pillows (org. vintage fabric), signed Victor Vasarely silkscreens, Verner Panton wallhangings and a collection of unused Verner Panton fabrics in various colours and patterns.
I would like a few chairs more but I'm not sure which. I would love to own the dining chair version of the Wegner "Savbuk" chair I have ... or something by Nanna Ditzel (Ring chair), Hans Olsen (almost anything), Hvidt & Mølgaard (esp. Silverline armchair) or Ib Kofod-Larsen (esp. his chair from Selig). As you can probably tell, I've finally found peace in the company of a mix between American Mid Century Modern and Danish Modern.
I have a No. 71 seat (Eero Saarinen) in perfect black vinyl, but sadly I need 2-4 vintage wooden legs to make it complete. I'm getting quite desperate to find such legs as it's one of my favourite chairs of all time.

I am glad to see that you did not take for granted growing up in such a house!! For better or worse, I started collecting (officially) when I was 16! It has been a wild time since then, and I think I have an impressive collection of furniture for a 21 year old of limited finances!

Thank you 🙂 ... oh no, I'm very thankful that I grew up in such a beautiful house. It was actually featured in Demnark's biggest interior magazine 3 times over the years. My parents have very good taste indeed.
Well, please tell us about what you have at home. I would love to hear it.

what i am working with
Being a student and living different places for the school year and summer, my collection is not all under one roof, but I love it all the same. I also know that I am really lucky to have found all the things I have at such good deals (I would not have been able to afford them otherwise). Lets see:
2 grey eames fiberglass side chair (I love they grey color, supposedly not too common)
1 black eames fiberglass armchair on a roller/office base. - Of all my chairs, this one travels with me to school and it is the one I use 95% of the time, I love it.
2 white Bertoia side chairs - to be fully honest I always admired the design of these and got them for what i thought to be a really good deal for their condition ($130 for the pair) but they seem to pinch the back a little - so I don't know if these will stay in my permanent collection, as fond of them I have been over the years before buying them. Or I could put them on a patio or something.
2 Wegner wishbone chairs - which are beautiful and comfortable and I will keep them for the rest of my life
1 florence knoll rectangular coffee table with wooden top - my older brother bought all 3 that were available at an auction, for about 20 dollars each, it is beautiful & sturdy, comes completely apart, and is a very good size (in my opinion). I love it.
A couple of Saarinen tulip table knock-offs (which turned out to be good quality, inexpensive tables)
2 Brno Tubular Chairs in an Orange wool upholstery - very comfortable & the cats love them
And last but not least - a small but appreciated collection of Blenko glass.
