I am getting an eames lounge + ottoman soon. Any pros/cons regarding walnut and cherry?

seems everyone gets walnut - i kind of like the cherry, but haven't seen it in person. does anyone here have preferences based on what they have seen? most of my wooden furniture is ash and birch except for one large wall unit in a unidentified dark brown wood/finish.

I have it in cherry...
It has a redish color that looked good with our floors and is more the color of the "original" rosewood without the exotic graining... I have to admit I like walnut, too... but it's really brown in coloration... I like the cherry with black leather and walnut with cream leather... Think the only way Charles liked it was rosewood with black leather...

thanks for your reply. I thin...
thanks for your reply. I think it might cool with my floors as well. They are stained concrete in a reddish clay brown color.

maybe wait it out a couple of months
like the misplaced post said - there is a special 50th edition to come out this summer (or sometime) - I can't remember the wood - but herman miller came across a lot of a renewable nature somewhere in the rainforest, apparently very close in appearance to the rosewood. This was in december when a herman miller rep told me all about it, I can't remember any of the details, hence the vagueness and overall lack of contribution to the discussion.

Package deal...
Indeed the Golden Anniversary Edition looks very nice. It's made with Santos Palisander and black leather. Only thing is that you have to contribute $ 6.500,- to the Eames Foundation. For that you get a limited edition chair with certificate and limited edition number. Further they supply you with a one year membership of the foundation and a DVD of the Eames Demetrios film on the production of the chair, and a copy of the museum exhibition book signed by Eames family members.
There you go, a whole package for the Eames lover, and this for only 6,5 grand.

I went with walnut...
After looking, I quickly went with walnut and am loving it. The wood grain stands out, I think thats why I like it so much. The other colors look almost like fake plastic wood to me(don't ask me why). I didn't bother trying to get something like the original rosewood, I figured that i'm in the 21st century and i should buy a 20th century version.

vintage alternative
i may be wrong about this, but didn't Eames design this chair specifically to have the rosewood veneer? i certainly don't know of any early examples in anything but rosewood. and i believe that the dec'n to stop making 'em in rosewood came in the early 90s, allegedly for environmental concerns (i am skeptical of this, btw; surely some sustainable rosewood can be found?)
but even apart from the 'designer's intent' issue, i suggest you spend roughly the same amount of money for a pre-1990's rosewood version (in good cond'n, of course). they look a lot better than the new ones).

you do have recall, I recall this as well, past reading, stands to reason the broad bent panels are excellent vehicles for highly figured wood...lets not forget: calico ash...
