Wired Magazine HAS to run a story on wired furniture...
This is insane...I never knew there was a wire subculture. 🙂

OK, this is a test. I saw these wire patio chairs on ebay and am attempting to put the link live on this forum. I hope it works. I sort of like these chairs.

Robert
Thanks for adding Ernest Race! I love his designs. He has some very nice upholstered pieces too.
Who designed the chairs in the second photo? I like them. They seem to be a widely used generic sort of design perhaps, but I wonder about it's origin.

Race
Race or Milne would be my guess, but somebody else might know better ??
The second pic is also from the Festival of Britain, but the style seems to have lasted right through the 50s..they are similar to the US ones Riki posted, and my own ones- I may even get ball feet for mine when I refurb them 🙂

Springbok
The chairs around the planters in Robert's picture are Ernest Race 'Springbok' chairs. I think these were only made for the Festival - I've only ever seen one (very tired) example in the flesh. Incidentally nice film of the Festival on youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fhtHHY9H_50

24 hours later, I'm still laughing at :
'When tapped with a clove of garlic (un-peeled of course) it produces a sound not unlike when a tree falls in the forest and nobody is there to hear/see it fall.'
But Yes! there is some fabulous Mategot wire stuff 😉

Frilly
I'm not crazy about the first two Mategot designs in the pictures. They look a bit too fussy. Were they earlier, perhaps, like 1940's?
