For years I have been absolutely in love with the Eames wire chairs. As with their cousins, the shell chairs, their optional bases and pad configurations make them fun to collect and "play" with.
Lately I have been preferring my Bertoia side chairs. To me, I have become fond of their simpler and more organic shape.
Which wire design, even beyond these, do you prefer?
.
For me, the Bertoias definitely would be number one too.
But indeed, I think this is a very interesting question: whenever someone says wire chair, I seem to think of Bertoia and Eames first. Perhaps others have this too ? :o) I did some searching to see if it was indeed possible to find 10 alternative wire chairs. It was surprisingly easy. Here it is a selection, all wire chairs (Bertioa and eames exluded), pictures below:
1 Mr Platner
2 Vernon Panton
3 Shin & Tomoko Azumi (the Asian Eames ?) Strings
4 Tom Dixon
5 Leaf chair, Lievore Alther Molina for Arper
6 knotted chair by Marcel Wanders
7 Gric chair
8 sculpture style (Tom Dixon again)
9 vintage classic: Lady from outline range by John Risley made by Raymor USA
10 Henry Glass
10 bis: plain old, but still good (no designer known)
