I picked up a chair from the salvation army about a month ago. I thought it was cool it had a curved plywood back and it was 10 bucks. I mostly bought it to refinish and to save it from a college dorm room (i live in a huge college town and thats where it would have ended up). I spent a few days on stripping, sanding, staining, varnishing, re-padding the seat, and I covered it with high quality faux leather. I am overall pretty happy with how it turned out, but i was curious if anyone knew who made it?
I have not seen another one. I think it might just be a cheap seat by a nobody but you guys are quite knowledgeable so i figured i might as well ask.
Thanks in advance.
Wayward
The chair looks like a generic design based on a few more famous ones, from the pictures it looks to be made of Beech which is a cheaper wood, the screws look to be new which will dent the value. The feet look as if they have brass covers? which may make it French or European atleast.
PS
Exactly how many more chairs do you have that you would like to know a little bit more about, but would hate to part with before you learn more about them?
bahaha
***as for the screws I sanded all the oxidation and what appeared to be pitting off of them, after all it was a chair restoration....i was not going to put ugly hardware back on it...
***I actually have 19 chairs right now. but honestly this was the last one i need any real help with. i have 10 david rowlands in various colors. Then I picked up what appears to be an authentic Artek Stool. I also picked up 6 shell chairs which looked similar to herman millers in the photo but were not when i showed up. So i bought them anyways because i thought they were cool for the price :/ I paid 10 bucks for them. i will probably sell the shells soon.
what do you think?
Below are the david rowlands i purchased at an auction
