Where are you located? If you know what you want, and are willing to spend to have it made, this should not be a difficult task. I am in the mid-west and would have some suggestions in this region. You can likely order the marble from a stone dealer who specilizes in kitchen counters. as for the base - you need to find a weld shop and someone who can chrome steel. This may be the same place. If you have the deminsion a reputable welder out to be able to put this together.
any issues with sealing marble table top?
I have a Monica Armani table that currently has a glass top, and have been toying with the idea of replacing that with a sheet of marble.
Any thoughts on durabiity, i.e. would sealing be an issue? I am considering getting the marble from a gravestone manufacturer (don't ask), so would it be ok if the marble is normally meant to be used outdoors anyways?
any thoughts appreciated.

Do you know how you want the table to look? Flat bar steel or tubulat steel? Length / Width? I would recomend apprx. 36-40" in width. For 8 to 10 people I would recomend 100-120" length. The hight of the table will be approxiamtely 30", but will depend on the seat hight of the chairs (Danish charis tend to run a bit shorther). For a marble table this long you will want to make sure you have adequate support in the middle. If you have some more information on the general apperance you are looking for I may have some more suggestions.
