Hi there,
A couple of weeks ago i bought a second hand eames lounge chair produced by Herman Miller. The chair is produced in pallisander and tagged at the bottom with a sticker: "Herman Miller Collection Designer Charles Eames" The sticker is authentic, i'm sure.
The chair also has a five star base with round edges at the ending. Usualy this is shown with the vitra edition and not with the herman miller edition.
I have no idea when this chair was build, but the seatings are filled with duck feathers. I heard that only used duck feathers upon a certain time and after a while they started using different fillings. Has anyone got an idea until when they used duck feathers as filling. Can anyone tell me if they have a chair with the same herman miller sticker at the bottom?
My chair is like this chair: lotnumber 156. Also a herman miller chair.

this chair was in auwful condition, yet it sold for 2400 euro!
Here in the netherland these chairs are pretty expensive secondhand. I paid almost 2000 euro's. Maybe i'll try to find me an ottoman in the states, big difference in price.. pfffff!
Can anyone help me to unsolve this riddle??

1972 and earlier.......for goose down.
your chair was produced by herman miller on or before 1972, because the goose down filled cushions were switched to fiber filled foam afterwards. the down cushions have a flat cushion look as opposed to the later version which is more puffy in appearance.
allright
and what about this tag? I noticed that newer models have black herman miller tags at the bottom.
this tag is at the borrom of my chair? Can anyone date it more specific?
here are the backshells, they are a bit discollored.
I think it's palissander, anyone else got a different view?
Is an early Lounge chair wanted, or is a more recent chair more sought after?
thanxs!
i still don't understand
i bought an early lounge chair.
My lounge chair is tagged with an Herman Miller Sticker, so i guess it's produced in the US.(see picturelink on post above) But it has an european five star base, just like the recent vitra ones.
1. how is this possible?
Do the early models have different features ? How can i date my Lounge chair best?
with regards, johan
Herman Miller
Johan, if you go to Herman Miller's home page they have an address listed for id'ing furniture. Take detailed pictures of your chair, mail them to Herman Miller, and you should have a reply in a few weeks. Thats the best way to know for sure.
