AS a lot of you know I have a lot of vintage modern chairs, there are a few that i do not have and I am not a museum just a person who has collected designer chairs for 20 years.
People always ask me what is the most comfortable chair and the most uncomfortable chair . I would have to say that is so hard to answer
cause there are two classifications that I put chairs in one the Lounge chair and the other pull up or occasional chairs.
I would have to say the Jacobsen egg chair with the tilt ranks near the top , I hate to say it but for me the Eames 670 and 671 is not that comfortable. I am 5'8" tall so it is still well with the means of the size that it was designed for . It is not that comfortable cause it does not rock. For the pull up chairs i like the Barcelona chairs i think with the soft leather they make a nice seat . Le Carbosia petit hits me in the back, while the grandee is totally uncomfortable. and not a great T.V. Chair . the swan chairs seem to be
o.k. for sitting but not long term .
I would like to hear what you think the most comfortable chair is .
For some reason...
I have found memories of Friso Kramer's "Revolt" chair. But I am a very bad judge because judging real comfort requires to sit on the chair for a longer period of time...which I never do. I use two chairs frequently the one Richard Sapper designed for Magis...not as comfortable as it looks and the arm chair Rud Thygesen and Johnny Sorensen designed in 1981 for Magnus Olesen A/S..nice, innovative wood laminating technology...but not very comfortable...but as I said, I do not find it all that important. I would not mind designing a comfortable chair but that's another story
Office chair.
Although an office chair, the Eames aluminum Group chair(with tilt, swivel) is really nice and the lounge verson too. Overall I'm my Eames lounge chair & ottoman tops, but I threw in a couple others. I don't find the Egg chair very comfortable, but the Swan works. Would the love of a chair make it feel better.
Butterfly chair
The original butterfly chair (not the folding one) is the most comfortable thing that I own or have sat in a lot. I sit in them sideways with one leg up. SO perfect....for me, that is. I think it's a very subjective thing.
The other one I love is the lowly Poang from IKEA. The lumbar support is perfect and much needed by me. Seat depth is perfect, too.
the truth of the matter
The truth of the matter is I use the chair in the first thread that says "does any one have any idea who makes this chair " . I have no earthly idea and would love to know I saw that one on ebay . I bought one just like at a vintage shop several years ago as a lounge chair and put a swivel wood
tilt base on and had it recovered in a spinnybeck black leather , I use it as my desk chair.
This is the greatest most comfortable chair G-d ever created, I fall a sleep in it almost every day I acquired a Herman Miller 671 ottoman and had it covered to match the leather chair and i am set . I love my collection of vintage designer chairs but i am some what figidity...
(could be adult A.D.D.) but i find my self playing musical chairs with out the music when company comes over to visit, Every one of teh chairs is great to look at and are somewhat comfortable ... I find my self changing chairs every five minutes.

comfort
If defined as: you will not want to remove yourself from it. I think it is the Wink. So many possibilites to sit, lounge, converse, read, sleep. The design is completely thought out. Unfortuntely it is almost always shown in some rediculous skin, but in a solid color it also relatively painless to look at. If I had to have just one chair:
