hey all I have in mind a lampshade to stick on a ceiling light. It's oval, not spherical, but may be a paper, or perhaps fibreglass. Not sure if it's a generic design or not, but I've seen it frequently. It's NOT the one pictured below. Possibly like it, but more 'atomic' looking. Could someone please let me know what they think I have in mind? 😛

Thanks a lot, I'm thinking of the George Nelson bubble lamp. Problem is, starting at 350 quid going up to 1500 it is, a little, out of my price range. The the first thing i posted is a couple of quid. Any ideas where I can get a cheap nelson knockoff?

Why not try the paper one for a while?
Meanwhile, save up for the Modernica repro. If you end up changing your mind, you'll only be out a couple of quid.

The manufacturing process...
The manufacturing process and materials do not justify the price tag. I would like to purchase a cheaper copy, much in the same way some people purchase knockoff Eames "style" loungers. I would like a Nelson "style" replica lampshade. Thanks in advance

The manufacturing
techniques ensure there are no reasonably priced, accurate knock offs.
Good for them.
You want cheap?..buy this.

I found a store that a person of your caliber may shop for all the items they desire.

I just don't believe that...
I just don't believe that either of you guys have the cash to be buying this thing either. In which case it seems rather sad and self-loathing to be championing a price which keeps something out of your own reach for no good reason. The price is not justified by the materials, manufacturing process, nor cost of transportation. As with most designer stuff the price is inflated due to the brand.

Lit Up,
The price is right, it is just a ploy by the manufacturers to keep "people like you" from owning quality merchandise.

What is your price range?
You can find a newer or vintage Nelson lamp (in good condition) for ~200 USD.

Lit Up,
I agree with you.
I was lucky enough to snag 4 early Medium-sized Nelson Saucer Lamps at a garage sale for $5 dollars a piece. I had never actually examined one in person and I was shocked at how fragile and simply made they were made. I personally would never pay over $100 for one. These lamps are one of many examples in design where youre actually paying for the label and not any discernable quality. Of course there is never a shortage of mooks just waiting to line up and buy them as this thread has illustrated.
