hi, someone told me that paul mccobb originally made his planner group desk and chair in matte black. someone else said there were models that were both black and natural... and it is true that when i look in ebay, those are the only two colors i've ever seen that desk in... what's true? was it black to begin with? any reason why natural-colored ones should sell for more? thanks.
.
As I recall there were 4 options shiny black, a color called tabac, a browner tone and natural...McCobb designs the planner group more so than other collections is often tampered with so the matt is likely a bad paint job not factory finish.Planner Group also went thru many permutations as to finish, legs, hardware...
thanks. that really helps....
thanks. that really helps. the finish on mine is matte black. would you venture a guess as to what it's worth. it has the chunky round brushed metal drawer pulls and no nicks. i'm guessing my best bet is probably to refinish to whatever is under the matte black, right?
.
There can lurk a host of problems under paint...so you never know? Mccobbs planner group is a great bargain, good vintage design at an affordable price check eBay some pieces soar(his travertine ,vitrolite, brass pieces DIRECTIONAL,IRWIN, LINES)the stools of this first line- 500.00 at times! some very inexpensive(the more common beech/birch PLANNER GROUP pieces)desks seem to be common-ish.His best work is great, much of it just o.k.
