I was asked the other day what is a reproduction.
I bought last year from Herman Miller a Eames Lounge chair.. is this a reproduction or a original? My wife bought a Sarinen womb chair for her studio from knoll, the original manafacture . It would seem this is a original also.
So many people use this word reproduction in a negative way .
I feel if you buy any of the great chairs from the original manafactures you are NOT buying a reproduction cause they never left Production .
Fritz Hansen has made the egg and the swan since 1958 That is the original manafature that chair never left production .
Now with Barcelona chairs or a Nelson Bench I think every one of those chairs/Bench that is not made by the original manafatures is a reproduction.
Lets hear someones take on this .
and please lets say it so we can all understand. On the last thread about Glassarts essay it is getting a little deep on that thread . If you are working on your PHd disertaion that is great, but please keep it simple. Thanks

Re-editions, originals, and Reproductions.
I feel if the original company is making the items for years or brings somthing back, then it's an original(although not vintage). As the years pass, some materials, colors, and techniques may change, but it's still an original. I don't prefer the vintage(used) furniture and like to have it new, so it doesn't bug me when there are a few changes or it is not done exactly the way it was. Are there exceptions(like Fritz Hansen's Poul Kjærholm furniture.) to a another company making an original design and calling it original, sometimes.
On the other hand, a reproduction is an unlicensed company making a copy of an original design. Not all are bad, just depends on who makes it.
