Taschen design books often have...
...best value for money.
And they do not think that nudity, like bare female breasts, is most horrible thing in whole world.

My favs
I love
the Herman Miller and Knoll books from Schiffer.
"Landmarks of Twentieth-Century Design" by Hiesinger and Marcus
"Alvar & Aino Aalto.Design" by Hatje Cantz
the "1000" series (lights, vol. 1 and 2 and chairs) from taschen

I wish there was a Paul McCobb Planner Group furniture; there's one for his "Directional" line, which to my eyes is nowhere as interesting.
Eames
Charles & Ray Eames : Designers of the 20th Century (MIT Press)
A careful, balanced look at the work of the Eames Office - including how much, and to what extent Ray contributed. It also details some of the less savory details - such as Bertoia's disagreement with Charles on attribution of pieces.
I also like "Geometry of Design" - altho I dont think it's as detailed and thorough as it could have been.
So many books, So little time.
I have a LARGE library dedicated to modern design & my favorite book by far is the one about Tapio Wirkkala - eye, hand and thought. This is by far the MOST complete book on a designer & their designs I have ever seen. Wirkkala isn't even my favorite designer, but this is the best book about any one designer I have ever seen.
What's the general opinion...
What's the general opinion of the basic architecture series by taschen? You know the little $10 dollar books on various architects, and sometimes, whole movements (bauhaus and the case study program)?
I'm thinking about buying all of them. They seem like such enjoyable little introductories to some greats. Perhaps it would make for a nice little collection.

I have a small number of the Taschen books and I really rate them, great pictures, very readable and not overwhelming to the layman like myself
There size really appeals to me, personally I find with a large number of design books whilst great looking dont lend themselves to casual reading, to read such a large and often heavy book can be quite a chore. Most of my reading is done either when travelling or at bedtime, the small format really lends itself to this

I love all the books.
...
I love all the books.
i have been collecting books for at least 20 years and have some great ones,
The best part is i re visit them all the time and always find new ideas and designs that i missed the first time around.
I consulted one of the books on Frank Lloyd Wrights Falling water that I had purchased almost 20 years ago to look at the stone that he used on that home, and there it was .. good pictures and all ,
so a good book always pays off.
Lesli Pina for schiffer boo...
Lesli Pina for schiffer books is more than likely the nuber one source for MCM furniture and history,
I don't know this gal but I have bought all her books and she has done a great job on this subject sometimes she reissues things with a picture or two different so you have to really look close, and the original book that kinda kicked the MCM movement off 10 years ago was
Was Cara Greenbergs book called Mid-Century modern she gets a lot of credit for her book and articles on the subject,
If you are serious about really buying great books on modernism.
I would always check Amazon first, cause if you like one book on the subject another pops up, that is how I bought so many of my books , just to tempting and you gotta have them
all cause there is always someting interesting to buy,
the philosophy of Jeff Bezos is amazing as he knows when he has a good customer never let him go, just like Steve Jobs, with Apple
