I'm sure we have an old thread for something like this but I don't know where it is so I just start a new one. Because it's fun. Saw this Finn Juhl chair the other day up for auction and think it's hillarious. If you have any more of stuff like this, please post.

Or this one. Also Finn Juhl for Bovirke. Upholstery looks like mid 80s.

Ugh! That hurts.

Next one is somewhere between cool and not cool.

Oy.  I remember that style fabric on the Finn Juhl chair.  It had a small window of popularity.  I redid an Erik Kierkegaard chair done in nearly the same pattern and colorway!

I still have this early tilt/swivel Swan Chair but the horrid reupholstery is long gone.

and here's my Kofod-Larsen hoop chair as found in a thrift shop.  Not weird so much as boring and inappropriate.  Oh, plus there was a  very old-ladyish crocheted shawl draped over it.  I wish I'd thought to take a photo of the total look.

Hey Spanky, welcome back! Do you mean the Bovirke or the Japan chair? The latter one is the worst. It must be German, I have seen that exact same upholstery often times. It makes me shiver. Your swan chair on the other hand is quite nice. I like that pink.

The Bovirke chair is not only strange because of the upholstery. It almost offends me that somebody painted it white.

Herringbone---I meant the brightly colored print on the Japan chair.  This is the Kierkegaard chair that I was talking about (photo taken after I'd slashed the fabric to see what was going on with the padding).  In addition to the color and print being so obviously wrong, this was a relatively thin cotton fabric---fine for pillows and curtains but not for a chair!

The color wasn't so awful on my swan chair but that 80s polyester weave was.  Plus they overstuffed it and ended up having to take a big tuck where the seat turns curves into the back. It's supposed to be one smooth sweep of fabric.

Not too fond of this manufacturer standard issue to-o-tally 1980's seat cover by Kusch+Co on a set of stacking chairs by Bruno Rey.

I remember when these 2 chairs showed up at an auction 20+ years ago.  I can't vouch for their authenticity but these 2 allegedly were custom made by Herman Miller for a (very patriotic) customer.

Patterns in upholstery work too if used in context within a space & not when just looked at as individual piece of furniture.  Josef Frank's upholstery patterns for Svenkst Tenn seem to work cohesively in this apartment in Paris.
