I've read often about Maloof pieces being finished off with a weird mixture of wax and oils... can't remember specifically.

But I also saw a pair of Finn Juhl 45 chairs finished with nothing but wax... and they looked/felt pretty nice.

I guess that is probably a good way to finish chairs so nice that you never sit in them, maybe?

And finally, I once waxed the legs of some bar stools and ended up with a few spots of white grain. I decided to apply another coat of Waterlox, thinking that the solvents would dissolve/absorb what I couldn't get out. I wiped it on, let it sit a bit, then thoroughly buffed it all off. Turned out great. Not the most useful information, but it worked for me in that instance.

I think a paste wax finish on teak can be really handsome. Especially on sculptural or turned teak, that wood is never going to be a glossy surface and I think that wax gives a beautiful patina, reminiscent of years of use while maintaining the clean fresh wood colour.

I did use it on a rosewood chair and I wish I hadn't. From this point on I think I will exclusively shellac rosewood, then finish with a Danish oil for it's varnish content if it even needs that.
