a while back, i acquired an emeco navy chair that was pretty beat up. regardless, the proportions seemed a little strange to me. with further investigation, the seat height of the chair is at 16" versus the standard 18". there is an emeco stamp beneath the chair, so i know it's real. i can't find any information online about this variation though, so if anyone has any ideas about this, i'd appreciate it!

The norm varies
from 16 1/2" to 18", in my experience. It depends on a number of things, including dining table heights. (There a magnificent 18th-century American trestle table that measures 24 inches high, as I recall it.) Perhaps some ship's furniture -- submarine ? -- is made a bit more compact, for understandable reasons ?

heard back from emeco
the guy at customer service said it was a chair they did a while ago for submarines. that was all the information he had though. i'm excited about my find, but wish there was more info on it!
