I have several pieces of furniture in hardwoods, originally they were varnished.
The varnish yellowed over time or just peeled off.
I don't like varnish as for me it kills the surface of the wood and prefer the use of oils.
What is your opinion on this?

I'll post some pics of a recent refurb I did on a coffee table. It's rosewood and was varnished. I stripped it back and on the advice from my french polishing tutor used Danish oil. I was not sure as I wanted to french polish it but I have to say it looks amazing, just hope the pictures do it justice. The project is 75% finished at the moment.

I can't find any before shots I am afraid. The link shows the top before, during and after. Hope to have it all back together later today or tomorrow. Just got a new camera so will try to get some better shots when it is reassembled.

I love oil too. Anyone have here have oil finished hardwood flooring? Has it worked out well? I recently re-did my floors, with varnish, and only afterward did I come across a pretty good woodworking forum, http://www.sawmillcreek.org/ , where many of the members advocated the use of tung oil rather than varnish on hardwood floors. I am kind of wishing that I did that instead, perhaps. I did live in an apt once, in a snowy climate, that had oil finished hardwood, and it never even got water stained, now that I think about it.

So gorgeous
I'd strip for that, Fulla.
I've been refreshing pieces with tung oil. Is this a good practice?
