Here's the resale on your Kjaerholm...

I am really surprised. This was a truly fine example of a handsome piece. Of course, you'd have to pay 12 grand to get a matching piece.

Thats a gift, the E Kold production stuff is far more desirable than the Fritz Hansen items in my opinion - I'd have bought that! Although the PK 31 series never has had a great resale value compared to the early 20 and 22 chairs.

I've heard people cite the comparison between Kold and FH...I think in some ways the FH is tidier.
My point is, though, that the pieces are just plain ol' too expensive for this PK stuff, given this kind of resale. And even though I don't regard furniture as an investment commodity, I think at these kind of premiums, even I'd blanche at the poor resale.

sick
I'm still sick over not bidding! Because they didn't list it with "Eames Danish Modern" in the title it was literally hidden in the Ebay labyrinth. I just should have bitten the bullet and plugged in $3000 but I choked and let it go.... days later I am still thinking about it and then I see your thread...ugh! Did you bid??? So...how disgusting would it be to buy a repro??? (see below) I can't believe I lost my cajones. I wonder why the sellers didn't have a reserve? They have some PK-22 chairs starting at $7,000 whereas the PK-31 started at a dollar...guess they learned their lesson. Nice people though...I exchanged a few emails with them. They've got good stuff.
repro hell??? What do yo think??? http://www.modernreproductions.com/product.php?productid=16209&cat=16&pa...

I had thought to bid. I have...
I had thought to bid. I have always liked the design, (though not his best, and not my favorite) and I am two hours from the seller by car. However, I figured, what can I do with one PK chair? I would need two, and finding another with the same kind of wear would be impossible. I also have other projects I'm working on, and didn't want an unplanned distraction.
I disagree, by the way, that this chair would have sold for more with more buzzwords in the title. Most people looking for Kjaerholm are looking for Kjaerholm, I think, and are not whimsical or casual about their search.
To put your mind at ease -- if you had bid, you still might not have won it. I bid once on a musical instrument that was somewhat local to me, only to have an acquaintance from the West Coast outbid me by what seemed like fifty dollars. When I lamented to him later that I should have bid my ass off on said instrument, he informed me that he had a bid that was tenfold over my highest, wildest bid. So, the biggest downer here is that you probably saved some collector or reseller some money by not jacking up his bid.

funny
You're right. I emailed the guy who won and asked him what his max bid was...just for my own peace of mind. Haven't heard from him yet but if I do I will post. From his profile he's not a dealer. And, you definitely don't need two of these chairs depending on where you put it. I would have had it in my living room on it's own diagonally across from my MR40...sadness. I do agree about the Chinese knockoff baaad idea... and I do believe this was my one and only chance to get a PK-31 at such a price and I blew it. Only a few people were bidding--it really was hidden. There was a very rare Platner chair up for sale recently on Ebay which was totally hidden as well but only because the seller had no idea what it was. Not the case with the PK-31 chair...but still if you throw in Eames in the title description thousands more will view it who have no idea who Poul Kjaerholm is. C'est la vie...
