Hi
I am looking at buying an eames compact sofa from a neighbor. I have looked around and think this is authentic herman miller but I am curious why there is no Eames attribution anywhere on the sofa that I could find...just the herman miller sticker? I guess I am surprised that there is no 'credit' given to the Eames on this piece of furniture?
I would have to reupholster this piece due to staining...Do any of you have a similar experience you could share the details of? A range of reupholstery cost and estimate of yardage you needed would be really helpful.
I am headed to Seattle soon and wondered also if anyone had a recommendation for upholstery work of this nature there.
Where I live in canada I would have to go to herman miller and I would imagine then I might as well look at a brand new couch!
Also, I could not see how to fold down the unit...I thought they collapsed towards the inside to lay flat...can anyone inform me how to do that or is that an older feature?
(edit: I found an old thread on this...looks like they took the compact out of the compact sofa! I assume if this was an older model it would
be clear how to fold down?)
All comments welcome, thanks so much for your time,

Back in the old day's rumor has it that
When Charles or one of the pets would have an accident on the Eames compact sofa, Ray would just throw a tribal rug over the stain..and then maybe a sheepskin..and then some pillows..and then when that batch would get "soiled", so she'd repeat the procedure, layering the items on top of the stained items until she got the right look and smell. It was a simple life.
yup, I blame Ray.

much appreciate your input and /or enjoyed your comments and, as a very visual person...your visual attachments to bring it home!
I contacted a well known herman miller recommended upholsterer in LA for a quote and it was $1400 before shipping and fabric... seems like simple cushions with attachment flaps but there you go!
Still hoping someone can recommend someone in Canada or in the Seattle area.
try contacting...
"Modern Conscience" they might be able to recommend someone in the NW, are you moving here?
I love Folex, Faustus has a sensitive tummy and that stuff will taken cat barf out of anything.
Was Ray a cat lady?

Upholstery
I like it very much but there are a couple of neon marker type stains and other general marks on the front not visible that someone has scrubbed to remove... Would have to go the aunt Mark suggested ray eames cat lady layering route to pull off the unforgiving white of the front view I believe...I don't need purr fect but I need no neon !
