Can't find these attractive at all, hope this wasn't at Tom Dixons instigation. They've got a real touch of 90's comic book Karim Rashid, eyes bleeding must look away!

This color scheme is not my cup of tea
but ugly, they're not. Also, not new since the shape goes back to 1936 and the white outside was producted from the get-go.
It's juist another color variant, it too shall pass.
I love the "savoy" vases...all sizes...and I have a bunch of them, but only the solid colors and none of the white.

SAVOY
The black interior/white exterior works, the rest detract from this "now" classic vase form...its still fresh...Id be interested to see the sales reports from its introduction to present, the slack off years, the boom years.I wonder has it been in unbroken production?

I just wish they'd allow this stuff to grow old gracefully - I saw these on a website a few weeks ago and thought how anachronistic they looked. Colours that simply don't belong with the era or spirit of these vases. I presume its an Iittala rather than Artek initiative so hence TD is possibly not to blame. If they made a limited run of vases using the early wooden moulds (if they still exist) and colours that'd be much more welcome.

So. . .
we're all familiar with the clear glass version. Are these colored ones ceramic ? What was the material of the original white one ? Was it monochromatic ?

I have the Aalto
collection book by Hatje Cantz and there wasa vase that was clear on the outside and opauge white glass on the interior.
Iittala is simply putting out its newest color scheme, which they do from time to time.
These vases are no more beautiful or ugly than any of the other Aalto Savoy glass pieces. Everyone has their favorites; in my case, I don't like the milk white too much, but none of them would ever be considered ugly.

of course the design isn't new! When I typed new I meant new variant, thought that was obvious.
Its a bit like those awful pk chairs with yellow or silver leather that were released, who do they think the are trying to seduce?

I beg to differ,gents...
I think the Orange lined one would look great on my Saarinen table,as the chairs have the burnt orange cushions.

I mostly admire these larger companies (knoll, Miller etc) but what I don't like is that sometimes they seem to be resting on the laurel.
Though I can't afford it I do like Isokons attitude, they keep the best of the Breuer range but still release good new work and give both equal value.

Hi Barry, I dislike the polyethelene ice cream buckets, sorry I meant vases, becuase I don't like the colouring, full stop. With an object like a glass vase that is about shadows, reflections and transparency altering the opacity and the colouring also changes the design, I've got some Aalto books too and can appreciatte all the savoy colour variations up until this one.
Its not like specifying fabric for a chair, the yellow and silver leather for the PK chairs didn't really change the design (though it looked awful) and the new Savoy colouring didn't change the form but I think its did change the design, I'm probably not making myself very clear.
