I've been lurking on the board for a while and I don't often have any input because pretty much everybody else on here is far more knowledgeable than I am.
Anyway, I know that comfort is subjective, but I've been looking at these for a while and love how they look. It would be perfect in our living room. Right now we have the Craft Assoc. 889s sofa. We had it reupholstered but I think they did it wrong. The work is nice but they built up under the cushion covering the straps and used stiff foam for everything and I just sort of hate it now. I also get bored with furniture and need to change it out every few months to year. So anyway, I would love to hear your personal experiences and opinions regarding the comfort of this Hans Wegner Daybed. Thanks everybody.

Hi I have researched the...
Hi
I have researched the foam world for the best foam, and found HR or high resiliency foam to be the best of all the foams. I used HR-33 (for the pound rating to compress an inch) to be the preferred foam for bottom cushions. I used this in my Knoll sofa, series 26 or 27 type. I really like these sofas and believe the coil springs underneath the foam to really offer the best, most comfortable seating system.
This sofa design uses a zig-zag type of under spring, and I think they are only good when you can't have a design with coil springs. This is a thin design sofa, and I think the coil spring systems are more comfortable than the various zig-zag spring systems. You have to decide for yourself.
I wanted one of these sofas at one time. But opted for the classic 1949 or 1950 Florence Knoll piece instead. Everyone loves my Knoll for comfort, and I am still happy after 4 years living with it.

Thanks for the reply donsof....
Thanks for the reply donsof. Are you saying that they made that Wegner daybed with different spring designs then? Or are you just saying that most sofas with coil springs are more comfortable and since there aren't a lot of coiled springs in the danish world then the zig zag spring is the next best option? I've been admiring the Florence Knoll stuff lately as well but it seems pretty scarce.
Does anybody else have an opinion they want to share about the Wegner daybed?

I have a george nelson day bed which is a similar shape, its very uncomfortable the main problems are the low angled back and no arm rests, its impossible to get a comfortable position. Its quite good for laying out on for a nap which i guess is what it was designed to do.

I believe all the Wegner's of this style, will have the same spring system. I have never sat in one, and its probably a good piece.
Not all of the Knoll sofas have coil springs in the base. Some have cot type suspension, which looks like bands of steel with tension springs on the ends. This is what is used in the parallel bar versions.
My issue with anything but coils, is that they will all sag in the middle more. The coil springs work like independent suspension in a car.

oh well time for some input
first there is the need to distinguish between the different versions of the wegner daybed.
Early designs are shorter than new ones 190cm and now 200cm
You can order replacement mattress's from GETAMA but they no longer make the shorter sprung seat for the old version so that is only available as foam.
Newer beds all have sprung seats either in a fitted seat or as a loose mattress sat into the frame.
GETAMA still make the bed so best source is to look their dealers up for advice on correct upholstery.www.getama.dk
As for the comfort of the bed that IS relative but having sleep many months on one as a child I can say they are great fun for hiding inside the back in.
