These 2 pieces are indeed by Kai Kristiansen for Aksel Kjersgaard.
The set is pretty nice and pretty valuable although the mirror is not very hard to find.
It seems that the prices for Kjersgaard stuff are really going up lately.
I would be curious to know if they have a Danish Furniture Control stamp.
Hi Leif. I have 3 pieces from Aksel Kjersgaard and none have the DFMC stamp.
* a #163K mirror (same design than the one pictured above).
* a #381 side table by Kai Kristiansen..
* and a #1034 coat/hat rack (a later piece from the end of the 70s - beggining of the 80s).
However, the vast majority of AK pieces I see on the internet have the DFMC stamp, so I am curious.
I know that AK was a member of DFMC in 1963 but apart from that...
Yes, they have a control stamp, mirror No. 163 - , wall console No. 182 (a vague one)!
What do you think, 320 € for the wall console an 80€ for the mirror is a reasonable price?
The wall console is quite pretty...also we found a coat wardrobe: Aksel Kjerskaard, piece No. 1034 and we have no idea what price we can ask for, thanks a lot in advance...
Oh. I have the same coat rack. It is not a Kai Kristiansen design but a Søren Nissan & Ebbe Gehls one. It is also later than the 2 other pieces you have: end of the 70s/ beggining of the 80s.
As a general rule, people do not do valuations here. Your best bet would be checking sold items by Aksel Kjersgaard on eBay...
I would guess that Kjersgaard pieces without a Danish Furniture Control mark pre-date Aksel Kjersgaard joining the Danish Furniture Control "club." Or possibly they predate the club's existence in 1958. I don't know when AK got started, but it seems reasonable to think it was probably before 1958. This would be a good question to ask AK, directly.
According to their website, Aksel Kjersgaard started his furniture factory in 1952 and furniture production started in 1955 (no idea what they have been doing in between).
From the information available on the furniture index, the AK / Kai Kristiansen dates from the beggining of the 1960s.
The #163 mirror was presented at the furniture fair in 1963 (as well as my #381 side table): https://aleph-01.kb.dk/F/P2BLAYJPTYXVA1C5QFS4XYREHGNNTCLG5D73165BL81GGDL...
We also do have a record that Aksel Kjersgaard was a member of DFMC in 1963.
I do not know when AK stopped being a member of DFMC but I guess that the AK pieces that do not have the DFMC stamp are rather later pieces than earlier ones. But then there is the postal code (8300 Odder, postal codes in DK were implemented in 1967). Indeed that would be a good question to ask AK!
questions to furniture bad viibel: you said that your pieces are from 1970-1975. What makes you say that if I might ask? Also, do the stamps just say "Odder" or "8300 Odder"? Finaly, is there a DFMC stamp on your coat rack? Thanks!
