Came across a Svend Wohlert catalogue for sale. Needless to say, only a small selection of images of pages shown. No date given either.Address for S.W:473, Jackson Street,San Fransisco 11.CA

There are two entries that have sent me searching but I have come up empty handed.

I'm sure someone on the Forum might be able to add information.

1st image;- Chests of drawers by Erling Torvits with model numbers BL-15/16/19. What company do the initials BL stand for?

2nd image; table by Vilhelm Wohlert; Model OS-15. Have been unable to find another image online. I know OS stands for Odense Stole og Mobelfabrik. My question;was this a low production table or has it been  misattributed in the catalogue?

Other designers featured in the catalogue;

There are images for this group; The 2 mentioned above and also  Hans Wegner ;  Arne Vodder ;  Poul Volther;  Hans Olsen; Borge Mogensen

No images scanned for this group.

Edv.Kindt-Larsen;  Nanna and JurgenDitzel;  Eijner Larsen and Aksel Bender Madsen:  Grete Jalk:  Arne Wahl Iversen

Thanks in advance.

Svend and Vilhelm were brothers so there is just no way that design credit was a mistake. Often OS was actually the abbreviation for P. Olsen Sibast, so how do you know for certain it was Odense Stolefabrik.

I see that he designed a bench for Odense Stolefabrik with similar legs so, it seems you are right.

@leif-ericson. P.Olsen Sibast did cross my mind ;but as Vilhelm's barstool, model OS-14,also featured in that catalogue  and marked examples of that stool ,with the Odense stolefabrik branding, can be found on the net, I felt it was a reasonable conclusion.

Thanks for the info regarding the fact that they were brothers; I had been wondering about that too.

Well then let me upgrade the statement that is "seems you are right" to, you are definitely 100% right!  I will think about who BL could be.  I've always wanted get a good look at a Svend Wohlert catalog.  I absent-mindedly missed one years ago.  There were very few retailers in the USA who carried the premium stuff.  Svend Wohlert was the one, for a time, on the West Coast.

@leif-ericson. Here are the other scanned pages from that catalogue. There were 36 pages in total according to the seller.

So just a glimpse of what you possibly missed! On the upside, a little of something is better than nothing at all.

Interesting. I’ve been researching the life and times of Erling Torvits. Hope to find something out about the companies he worked with. Haven’t got the information yet. But I‘ll check other sources for BL tomorrow. Let’s see what I can find.

Borchorst & Lindhard is the only name I’ve been able to come up with that could be a BL....

Only thing I came up was Boltinge Stolefabrik, but Borchorst & Lindhard is way more likely because they were makers of storage furniture, not chairs. 😉

I can only imagine. I look forward to completely missing all the hard work profiling and marveling at the photograph your dig up of him! (Still feel like an idiot for that).

In all seriousness that sounds exciting Herringbone, I really appreciate your new account which without forcing your hand I think you should share here for others if they're not aware. Deserves to be seen (and read) by as many as possible.

@kyle-barrett It's very nice you say that. And yes, I was planning to share the information here, too. I just wasn't sure how. I didn't want to flood the forum and start ten threads at once but also didn't want to start only one for all the designers. Because if maybe @lexi digs up piles of  never seen before documents (which can be expected ;)), things would get mixed up. So I'll probably end up starting individual threads for the designers but take my time.

If anybody is interested: on Instragram I go by the name of oliverf54 which is the stupid name IG gave me and I somehow haven't changed it yet. But anyway. The account is dedicated to Danish modern designers, cabinetmakers and factory owners, most of them well known but some of them not very well researched.

@herringbone. Haha. I'll do my best not to "clog up" the Forum. Unfortunately I have found a seller in the UK with 300 books/catalogues ,not all Danish and not all furniture, for sale. I go through them every now and then to see if I can find anything interesting !!!

In the meantime I found some images of the Erling Torvits tallboy BL-15 in rosewood. No pics of makers marks or mention of Mr.Torvits. " 2 of the images are from IG and the 3rd  one is a sold listing from a selling platform and all dealer info etc has been removed. The seller was located in Belgium.( ? time to put on your journalist's hat 🙂 )
