Here is another of my little gems to share with you all. This chair has speakers int the upper wings and a base speaker in the seat and back mounted on rubber, so it allows you to feel the music though the vibrations.
Obviously inspired by Jacobsen egg chair with a bit of Eero thrown in. Nice picture of Sir Richard with the chair. Preistmangoode were the designers. So love it or hate it?

.
I've never seen that before although I've seen other egg type chairs with built in hi fi. Slightly wtf but in a good way. Was it ever offered commercially or just used in the Megastore or the Virgin hq? That picture of Branson looking like a 70s Radio 1 DJ is one he'd prefer to forget. When was it made? I hesitate to Google 'Virgin Vibro'
Wtf indeed
It was made as a listening post for the Kings Road store. Apparent only 5 Were made - although I understand there were a few special commissions in addition to this.
Here is one that went to auction years ago - I do not like the color combo
It is up for sale and I have offered it to Sir Richard via his PA and also to Paul Preistman for their offices - they have a silver one in their studio already. Their design work is incredible and really diverse.

Personally I do not think...
Personally I do not think much of it at all.
One thing I know is regardless how rare or valuable the piece you have to love it or at least really like it.
If you don't just sell it and put the money into something you enjoy and can admire daily.
If you do keep it and enjoy it.
No arguments there
You are totally right Starline. I had a bit of a retro passion in my twenties - now in my mid thirties I think it is all a bit done and prefer something a little more sophisticated.
It will float somebody's boat - and sell it I shall.
I guess the true test of great design is something that endures the decades and is still seen to be relevant - rather than a just nod to the past.
I didn't ever get around to fitting the iPod dock and amp in it as I bought a rather nice B&O and a big sofa instead.
I like your thinking...
I like your thinking D-String.
Personally I have continually traded up over the years as you realise some pieces just don't cut it anymore.Always trying to improve is half the fun.
I love the weird and quirky but also vintage high end pieces.
It can be hard not to wander off track although one never knows where any track will go.
Thats a great photo Heath..
Classic Worlds Fair type of shot!
It seems that they always make everything match when they are trying to be futuristic. The Featherson chairs are pretty cool. Like the designer was going for the look of a stand of redwoods or something.
More inspiring than the 'BRO chair, in my opinion.
.
I saw a documentary on him a few years ago, the speaker chair was meant to be curved ply and the marquettes were just cut and curved sheets of thick paper, very charming little collection of models on his desk. I think in the end they were made from heat fused polystyrene pellets in steel molds, something like that.
Gesamtkunstwerk, its not so fashionable now amoungst decorators but I've always liked the calmness of most of it.
