I'm working on a design for some knockdown tables that use solid timber, veneered ply, flat bar aluminium and allen screws. There were a lot of Danish (rosewood and stainless) desks made like this with a very clear sense of structure in the 60's + 70's.
Can anyone suggest names of designers or links so I could have a closer look at how they were done?
Cheers, HP
cheers guys! much...
cheers guys! much appreciatted, I found Fabricius + Kastholm and they were quite good judging by the pictures.
I just want to get an idea of what looks best in terms of material contrast and proprotions. I can't afford to try out all the different finishes. Heart says stainless and dark timber, wallet says brushed aluminium and beech.
Well, there IS
stain. . . and the clear-anodized aluminum usually available might be an alternative to a brushed finish -- if you like it ? Money spent of better material is never regretted, however, once a good design has been settled on; the same craftmanship that would be necessary in lesser material is rewarded by a more satisfying result. . .but you know that. I'm just encouraging you better nature !
ha! ha! If I wanted stain...
ha! ha! If I wanted stain and clear coated aluminium I wouldn't even bother, Ikea do that nasty shite better than I ever could.
I'll get there, it'll be a case of taking the middle road I think. Its interesting how changing materials (polished stainless + dark timber vs aluminium + pale timber) changes perception, one minute Scando the next Milo Baugham.
