Hello all, I was wondering if anyone could indentify this sofa as being a Paul mcCobb or an imposture. Certainly reminiscent of his work. Can any one confirm designer?

I had one recently and could find no evidence that it was by McCobb. I did a fairly a thorough search. Perhaps I missed something.

Thanks for the comment, glassartist. Straylight candidly says its not.
WRIGHT sold one recently as PM.  http://www.liveauctioneers.com/item/28100299_paul-mccobb-sofa
Regardless, it's a quality sofa with a great look. Congrats to us on our finds!

It is a handsome sofa. Appears well made, too. I especially like the mitred joints on the crest rail echoing those on the front legs. I don't even mind too much the fabric on it. The green is just about right on the walnut. But about that "crushed" velvet look...

Thanks tktoo. I agree. I love the mitered joints. The upholstery is really in immaculate condition. I wouldn't mind living with it for a while until I could afford reupholstery. Check out more, better photos here.  https://www.icloud.com/photostream/#A15n8hH460Ywf

has a bit of a Widdcomb vibe, don't you think?  And I know they often had similar upholstery.  And the angle of the back legs is a very distinctive detail.
Just a thought

Waffle, thanks, it does look very much like a Widdicomb piece. There is one very similar, but the joinery is different and my front legs don't subtly curl at the feet. This sofa has me perplexed!

Slight variation. Auction site and glassartist's sofas have tight backs while the OP's sofa appears to have loose cushions. Same design, though, no doubt.

I think that is the same sofa. Mine was likely recovered and the tight cushions replaced with loose. The mystery lives on... 🙂
