Santa got me...
Let's see. I got a general reference book an 50's modern funiture called Fifties Furniture(very inventive title) by Leslie Pina. It's decent for a general reference book on many modernist designers from that era. That was from my brother. Santa aka mom gave me two seasons of I Love Lucy DVDs. I got money from my mom and step-dad that is supposed to go to the purchase of a mid-century modern couch which I am currently in the market for. Now, it's just a matter of finding the couch I want. My sister and brother-in-law got me some Gucci Rush perfume and the final season of Buffy: The Vampire Slayer. I got a couple gift certificates to eat out and to a local bookstore. Oh, and I got the DVD of the movie Glory from my best friend. I'll get the rest of my Christmas presents next weekend when my dad and other sister visit.
Where to begin ...
Two albums with Mew/Ladytron and a book about Finn Juhl from my sister, some money from various family members, Eames' "House of Cards" (large edition) and several drawing utensils from my dad, Kay Bojesen's wooden monkey from my grandmother, a Verner Panton "Wire" cube from Montana (I needed one more) + 2 different sets of colorful bedroom linen by Marimekko/Maija Isola from my mom and a D&G perfume set from my cousin.
Geez, I feel inadequate...
we keep it small in my clan and spend the $$$ on the kiddos. I got "Method" body stuff from my sis (if you've not tried this brand, do, it's great. It's at Target or www.methodhome.com) Mumsy and Pater gave me a trunk organizer for my car and a pound of Tellicherry peppercorns (my fav). My niece and nephew gave me Godiva truffles, bless their little hearts. And hubby went all out and got us both an elliptical trainer (not so small, that)and me a delightful pair of tempur-pedic/polar-tec slippers, in black, natch.
vicarious thrills!
We bought a house before the holidays (growing family) and haven't sold the old house yet. Financially things are a bit "tight" since I am paying both mortgages ( ouch ).Because of my microeconomic deficit spending, my wife and I didn't exchange gifts. HOWEVER, not just 15 minutes ago, and I swear by God this is true, I picked up a pair of Saarinen model 71 chairs by Knoll in perfect condition with all the proper labels. They even have the union stickers on the bottom from the guys who built them. Here is the envy-provocation part; I bought them BOTH for only $25 at my local "gold mine" of a thrift store! Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle aaaalll the waaayyy .....
